Question / Help Can i get some help with my stream settings ?

Hey, I would love to get into streaming, but i have a hard time finding out good settings for my stream.
Im (Trieing to) stream(ing) to Twitch.

I have plenty of internet 12 mb up to the closest twitch server (Amsterdam).

My specs are:

AMD Radeon HD 6800 Series

AMD Phenom II X4 955 Procesor

8GB Ram

Windows 7 64 bit

I think that is it.
If you guys need anything else just let me know.

Anyhow. What is the best settings i can use ? i mainly wanna stream Csgo and Titanfall.
With the settings i had in the past i mainly had a problem that the game would become laggy while streaming.

Then feel free to tweak according to what you feel your computer seems capable of. Generally, trial and error is the best means of getting the most out of your system. Record to file to check the quality and tweak as necessary.

Thanks man, that helped alot!

After fiddeling around i found pretty good settings but my ingame experience is still a bit laggy.
Which settings would i have to change to make it more smooth ingame ?

Two general settings:
Bitrate of 3500 is normally used for high motion 720/1080p footage, since you stream on 514p I would reduce the bitrate to at least 2000kbit.
Scene buffering time (under advanced settings) was set to 700 quite some releases ago, I would suggest you change your buffering time from 400 to 700 too. It improves the overall sync of OBS for a lot of users.

If the game insists on lagging sometimes/overall you might have to reduce your resolution even further or switch to the superfast preset. Your CPU is unfortunately not the most powerful anymore and a game like Titanfall is known to eat quite some cpu power ;(

This helped alot! i put my bitrate to 2500 and my buffering time to 700 and now i don't/ barely feel lag anymore!

i thought of 1 more question for now,
If i stream i should stream 16:9 right ? since that is the twitch aspect ratio.
Now i for example have a 1440x900 monitor. What is the best way to deal with this?
I don't want any black bars, but if i change the resolution to 16:9 not everything will fit on screen right ?

Hmm in general I would recommend to fill the black area with a nice background image and some text, or a follower plugin etc. To achieve this you could set your OBS base/custom resolution to for example 1280x720 and then fit your sources to this size (CTRL+F or using the Position/Size options if you right-click them). You should then have the black bars in the preview of OBS. so for example move your desktop/game source to the bottom and then fill the black area at the top as mentioned :)
Personally I dont mind having black borders when I watch a stream. If the guy plays 4:3 its better to see black borders than him stretching the whole picture to a 16:9 format!! If he then decides to stream at 16:9 and fill the empty areas with useful information (not too intensive or eye cancer creating, if I am allowed to use that term, Music currently playing, stream schedule, or maybe the chat) then this can add to the stream experience but is more a bonus (seeing a nice layout) :D
