So do you guys have an prescribed settings for a 2-2.5 Mbps upload speed? Also does NVENC offload the encoding to the GPU, or how does that work exactly?
Yes, NVENC uses a special chip on supported NVIDIA GPUs to handle encoding. Your CPU won't have to do the work but the quality is lower compared to x264 at the same bitrate.
Do you have an NVIDIA card capable of using NVENC? The best way to compare is to test for yourself. At 1300-1600 Kbps I'm not sure you'll get acceptable output from NVENC without a lot of downscaling, but that will depend both on the content you're recording/streaming and personal preference.
I have a GTX 760, so yes. It's an option but i've never tried to stream with it. I have a 1080p monitor that I downscale to 720p with the Lanczos filter. Not sure if 1300-1600 bitrate is enough to support 720p though.
I was guessing that since my cpu is ok for gaming but has issues at times with encoding + the game like playing Planetside 2 that offloading the encoding to the GPU would be good. For context here I have a FX 6300. It's not bad at all for gaming, and i'm not trying or wanting to start a flame war.
