Question / Help Basic screen recording is just black

Hi, I just installed OBS Studio and it seems like a great idea.
I tried to do a basic screen recording today but when I opened the video file it was plain black. I tried another one with just the OBS Studio window showing but again the video was plain black.
How do I make OBS Studio actually record what's on my screen?
I'm not trying to record a game or anything I just want a video of my Windows desktop and whatever program is running so I can send it to someone for troubleshooting. Ultimately I'll be recording a LabVIEW VI as it runs.

Nevermind I just had to add a source.
If it's necessary to add a source, perhaps this should be added automatically, or added in the Auto-Configuration Wizard or something. It's frustrating to get a black recording!
