Audio source sometimes aggregates monitor then plays back-to-back, plays to recording fine

I've got a media source of a short mp3 audio clip, something like 0.8 seconds. Other media sources seem to be working appropriately, but this one will occasionally just not play any audio to my audio device. If I continue to replay it, giving it a second or so between replays, it will eventually output the audio multiple times in a row, without any spacing. It always does this after clicking restart again, never after just waiting. Setting the audio stream to monitor and output, the recording generated does play the audio at the appropriate times, as expected.

On starting OBS, the source works appropriately. After some plays, it then occasionally plays with a small delay before. Then, it will take 2 plays before playing both in a row as above. Then 3, then sometimes 4. It will settle on needing 3-4 replays, from what I can tell.

I've checked "journalctl --since "10 minutes ago" --user-unit pulseaudio" before and after repeating the problem, but there is no change to output.

I'm running on Ubuntu 20.04, with the OBS flatpack at version 27.2.4. Just let me know if any other system info would be helpful!

Turns out this was some weirdness with PulseAudio, in the end I solved it by switching my audio subsystem to pipewire. Just in case anyone with similar issues runs across this.
