Question / Help Any Extremecap U3 users?

Was just wondering how well the device has been working for you guys? Any issues with quality loss at all when using it via video capture device in obs? I'm thinking about picking one up but had a question.

The main reason I'm picking it up is to use it as a passthru from my main system since I use Crossfire. Basically gonna be duplicating the signal and sending it to the ExtremeCap. For those that don't know, Crossfire and SLI don't work in OBS/Xsplit, as it only pulls frames from one of the gpus, and therefore disables the second when using Game Capture. Was thinking I could use this as a work around. Duplicate signal being sent into the U3, into my system via usb3 and back into OBS via Video Capture Device.

From the video's and reviews I've seen, lag looks minimal if non existent. This would be an EXCELLENT way for Crossfire and SLI users to be able to utilize both cards. I picked up two r9 290's, kinda blows I can only use one when I want to stream =*(.

Has anyone considered this or tested it out by any chance? Curious how it will handle a incoming source above 60 FPS as well (and in my case, 2560x1440, hopefully it downscales well in case I have to use a splitter)...If anyone can test this I would greatly appreciate it. Just want to see if it works well before I dump almost 200 just to try something out...lol.

I don't own one myself, but I am fairly certain it does not support input resolutions over 1080p.

Well I'm not planning on using over 1080p resolution. I'm assuming if I use a splitter, it will just down convert to 1080p.

You might wanna read up on what a splitter does...it splits a signal without changing it in any way.

I know what a splitter does -_-...And I stated in my opening post, that I would use a splitter, and hopefully the Extremecap U3 would downscale the incoming signal. I can't use a duplicate signal cause it will force my 2560x1440 display to 1920x1080 as well, and lose out on the glorious resolution. But If I use a splitter, there's a chance the Extremecap U3 will downscale that incoming signal to 1920x1080, or it might not at all and won't work. Hence why I'm here and asking to see if anyone has tested it....

For those running 1920x1080, have the required usb 3.0 controller, and are running a 1920x1080 signal with multiple gpu's. They finally have a solution to using their crossfire/sli setups. Not being forced to turn them off to stream...But be able to play and enjoy to their systems potential, and have the ExtremeCap U3 take over in pulling the signal in for them...Trust me when I say as an owner of two r9 290's...It's sad that I have to turn one off to stream...

I doubt the Extremecap is going to be able to "automatically downscale". If it could it would be a feature written on the box it comes in. Not only that, but the input signal (pixel clock) of 1440p60 is about twice that of a 1080p60 input. But you're going to find better luck asking on the Avermedia forums instead of here, last time I was there their forums were pretty active.

Most of the Datapath capture cards (https://obsproject.com/forum/resources/datapath-vision-capture.1 ) should be able to do it (those with an "S" at the end of the model name, or the -DL), but you'd need a PCIe x4 slot available. They are more expensive though, unless you find one cheap on Ebay. :D

640 x 480 (60p) / 720 x 480 (60p/30p) / 720 x 576 (50p/25p) / 800 x 600 (60p)
1024 x 768 (60p/30p) / 1280 x 720p (60p/30p)
1280 x 768 (60p/30p) / 1280 x 800 (60p/30p) / 1280 x 1024 (60p/30p)
1360 x 768 (60p/30p) / 1440 x 900 (60p/30p) / 1680 x 1050 (60p/30p)
1920 x 1080 (60p/50p/30p/25p/24p/60i/50i)

These are the resolutions you can input into the U3. Downscaling is not mentioned anywhere on the infopage, but it certainly cannot downscale from 2560 to 1920 as it will simply not accept the 2560 input.
