Bug Report Alt-Cropping not working for me

Alt cropping seems to only work if I don't hit Ctrl + F (which I do to make certain things big enough to see right away). Once you do that (probably why it doesn't seem to work for game capture?) you have to reset the transform in order to be able to alt crop again.

What does Ctrl + F do?

ctrl + F is the key that fits the image to screen.

I can confirm - This appears to be the problem for me as well. Looks like a bug.

Feature, not a bug. You must setup Bounding Box Type to 'No bounds' first. Cropping must complete first from the filters, later you can adjust its settings through the Transform menu...

Noted.

I can see this now. To the average user, like me, this is a bit hidden. I feel as though it could be a bit easier to figure out for users. Thanks, though.

Lucky boy. I'm about an hour couldn't beat the openbox built-in alt-dragging feature (linux)...

Yea, I should have noted it in the changelog. It currently does not work with bounding box scaling turned on. You have to turn that off first, do your cropping, then turn it back on after. I'm terribly sorry about that by the way -- bounding box functions a bit differently and made it a bit difficult. I just didn't have time to get it in at the moment.

No need to be sorry. You're amazing! Thanks for all of you work. Love this program.

Love this program. Thank you for creating it.

Don't understand how to get alt cropping to work. [I use Ubuntu 16.04]. Please, where is bounding box scaling turned on and off? Strongly suggest step-by-step instructions [both for this feature or fix, and for all the others that might arise] for the many of us who don't understand the insiders' lexicon.

Under Transform>Edit Transform... menu.

There are few words about cropping in OBS Studio Help Guide: https://obsproject.com/forum/resour...ware-studio-multiplatform-help-guide-pdf.365/ (alt-cropping I named as 'easy cropping' feature in the guide).

If you just create a source then bounding box type is set to 'No bounds' by default. Make sure that your system is not using ALT key for some actions (like dragging feature in openbox environment).

Still no joy on the alt-crop situation. Using Ubuntu 16.04. Bounding Box scaling turned off. Lock Preview option unchecked. Source not locked.

I changed the keyboard shortcuts for the HUD and for the Terminal so they did not include the "Alt" key. I note however that depressing the Alt key [in Ubuntu] underlines the shortcut letter of the items in the Title Bar, and pressing the highlighted key drops down the menu for that item.

Is it possible that this is preventing alt-crop? I wonder if other Ubuntu users are able to alt-crop?

And please don't think I'm complaining. OBS Studio is a fabulous program and I'm grateful you've released it at no cost.

@George McDowell in linux you need to find key modifiers, if any, and disable them. If "ALT + Mouse" performs some action (like window dragging) then you are unable to use this cropping option in OBS Studio.

Let me start by saying "kudos" to the developers of this program/application.
I too am using Ubuntu 16.04 and I cannot not get the ALT-crop to function as stated here or in the "MultiPlatform Help Guide" I also modified "keyboard short cuts", logged out then "in" and it would not work. So here is an alternative approach using the application.

1. in the "preview pane right click
2. select "transform" -> "edit transform"
3. Bounding box type -> no bounds
4. put a value into the "crop left" box or use the up/down arrows. the left margin will turn green and you will have cropped part of the left side of the image. Do the same for the "crop right" box
5.after achieving the look I wanted
6. select "bounding box type" -> Maximum size only. Purely arbitrary on my part. If you don't the left/right margins will remain green.
7. Close

Why the "Alt" key is failing to work on Ubu is bizarre. I am now thinking of trying a new keyboard. since I have two alt keys: "Alt" and "Alt Gr". Tried both, Modified the "ubu keyboard shortcuts" but the problem persisted.

Hope this helps.

@robl The Guide is written by me. Again, if you hold ALT and then click and hold Left Mouse button over any window and you move mouse and something is happening with the window - then your ALT+Mouse still reserved by system and you cannot use this feature in OBS Studio.

The fix to the Alt-crop issue on Ubuntu is quite easy. Instead of "Press and hold Alt key" do the following: "Press and hold both the Windows (super key) and Alt key" while selecting any red circle of the bounding box. Don't forget that the Bounding box type must be set to "No Bounds".
@Suslik V
I want to thank you for the outstanding effort on the new "guide". Often documentation is overlooked but in my opinion documentation more often than not determines the success of any application.
