IF you search in this forum, you will find other references to AVIdemux
The short version of why it is recommended is that it allows trimming a video WITHOUT re-encoding, which is critical to preserving video quality (think VHS tape copying, if you are old enough ;^). So you'll keep an original of the video, then save off snippets (1GB in your case).
- Note that you'll be forced to select certain frames to do this due to the way video keeps a full (key/i-)frame, then only the delta data in between (p- and/or b-frames). so your cuts will be on that full keyframe. this is paraphrased and NOT my area of expertise.. so hopefully I didn't mess that up too bad in simplifying.
- Why did I mention this? to avoid frustration if you try to cut at a specific frame and avidemux won't (and shouldn't) let you... now you know why
