Question / Help About the x264 intel capabilities

So I noticed the i7 3610qm in my laptop can only manage to get 30fps for x264 encoding so as soon as I go any higher than that on any preset, the stream..and even the preview is choking/lagging.(cpu usage is about 85% though)

Thus I decided to see what my i5 2500k is capable of.(I mainly stream from capture devices so the encoding is pretty much the only thing that will stress it.

Anyhow: I googled and came across this: http://www.anandtech.com/show/4083/...core-i7-2600k-i5-2500k-core-i3-2100-tested/16

Now I do not really know which graph I should look because I simply do not know what is getting used by the OBS x.24 encoding. Before I start moving hardware around.

I would appreciate any info about this. Thanks in advance.

so actually I only need to know if/from what preset uses pass 2 encoding? because when using pass 1 x264 encoding this 3610qm can get 100+ fp, but on pass 2 its just a little over 30 fps... any help with that? Maybe force it touse pass 1 or something?

Hehe, 2-pass encoding is not usable for streaming. It needs a finished encoded first pass and can then improve the compression and quality. For streaming only the first-pass is a bit interesting.
The i5 should be just fine for streaming at the moment.

well.. I actually use the laptop at the moment. I know the 2500k would do a better job but I can simply not understand why the i7 3610qm can not even encode 720p30fps at any preset slower than 'veryfast'. Even the obs preview is choking like hell.
