99% gpu usage in editor when using obs footage

i recently decided to try switching from shadowplay (which is what i was using to record footage before) to obs and after recording some footage and starting to edit with davinci resolve i noticed that it was using 99% of my gpu when looking at the obs footage task manager says its because of video decoding but i am using the nvac h264 encoder which is i belive what shadowplay uses and with shadowplay footage the gpu utilization is like 10-20% so i was wondering what caused this? and how to fix it. if i record in .mp4 the problem is much worse than in mkv i tryed to test different encoders but they all seem to do this i have attached a screenshot of my output settings for recordings on obs i would like to solve this as it makes it much harder to use obs to record footage

If you have Davinci free, it's non accelerated as far as I know so your CPU is decoding the video on the timeline. Make sure there are no B Frames or visual tuning in your recordings, they require more processing power to decode.

how do i turn those off? and will that effect the quality?

You have to switch to Advanced mode so you access to the encoder settings. What GPU do you have?

Turing & later can encode B Frames, earlier GPU's don't

Anyway, B Frames are the lowest quality frame type.

i tried to turn tuning to the lowest and set the bframes to 0 but there was only a slight difference and compared to the shadowplay footage its still realy bad it uses 20-30% of my gpu at the lowest and 80-90%at the highest when im skimming thru. compared to 6-15% at the lowest and 40% at the highest for shadowplay
i have a rtx 3060

It may not get much better with that NLE. I use Vegas Pro, have for as long as I've used OBS. My recordings playback like butter & I can scrub the timeline as fast as I want. I'm running a 12900k/3090.

what could do this then? i realy doubt its davinci resolve cause i havent found a single soul complaining about this sort of thing for davinci resolve and for recording and editing 1080p60 footage a 3060 should be enough and not get slowed down this much
i dont mind losing some quality as long as it looks as good or better than shadowplay it works for me

You haven't answered my Q, free or paid version of Resolve? They are not created equal. Free, your CPU is actually doing the work...

oh sorry yeah i use the free version but the cpu usage is only at 4% and when skimming thru it goes up to only 7% the gpu is the one getting pushed which is weird
my cpu btw is a rysen 7 5700X3D

I've never bothered to install Resolve but there could be settings that could be changed/improved. Need to dig under the hood. In any event, those utilization percentages don't sound horrible & if it plays/scubs OK, I wouldn't worry about it.

Here's another editor that is a must for your toolbox, perfect for simple editing, trimming & remuxing. I barely re-encode any of my material these days.
