Current configuration.

Gaming PC:
I7 7700 watercooled
16GB DDR4
GTX1080Ti watercooled
SSD for OS
HDD for games

Streaming PC:
Ryzen 7 1700
8GB DDR4
GTX1050Ti (pre-render frames set to 4)
SSD for OS
HDD for stuff
Elgato HD 60 Pro PCI Express capture card (set to see 1080)
OBS Studio

Internet: 75Mbps down / 20 Mbps up (upload seems very consistent)

I connected my gaming PC to my streaming PC via HDMI, I setup Elgato sound to transfer my game audio and mic audio from gaming PC to the Streaming PC. So, I am happy with that, it sounds good. At first I was getting screen tearing, but I think setting pre-render frames to 4 and downscaling to 720p@60 helped. So, my current settings for obs:
canvas 1080p
downscale 720p
bitrate 6,000
Encoding: Fast

1. I think changing pre-render frames and downscaling pretty much took care of screen tearing, but I think I did notice it a little still. Anything else I can do to help with that? I did read I could set the elgato to 720p and then canvas to 720p and downscale to 720p to help, but the problem I run into is my background graphics don’t fit the page then. So, I left the elgato and canvas at 1080p and just set downscale to 720p.

2. If I go any lower on encoding, the game is extremely choppy on the stream. Is this correct or should the Ryzen 7 1700 be able to handle slower encoding? When I tried it in 1080p@60, I had to do “veryfast” encoding and in 720p@60 downscale I can do “fast” encoding. What settings do you recommend?

3. Once I get the best settings figured out, I want to hook my PS4, Xbox one, and Switch up to see how that works. I do not have an audio mixer, I just have a focusrite solo USB interface. So, is my best course of action to just plug my PS4 into the capture card and then just swap my USB mic over to the streaming PC? Then plug my headphones into the controller?

Not sure if I am allowed to post my twitch, but if you find it, the last two streams I did were 2 pc setup. The first, Dark Souls was when I had bad tearing, then I changed settings and the last stream Ghost Recon, is based off my current settings above.

Tearing is often a mismatch between what your gaming PC is outputting and what your capture card is set to accept. VSync On at 1080p60 on your gaming PC and set the Elgato to the same.and it should be better.

How are you getting the signal to the capture card and gaming on it too? Cloning your screen, HDMI splitter, or some other way?

Choppiness is usually when your encoding PC is overworked. Post an OBS log file from a 5 minute or longer attempt at encoding high action gameplay, to confirm. Make sure Game Mode is off on your encoding PC if you're using Windows 10.

Hello,

I have a 1440p 144Hz G-sync monitor. I have the monitor set to 1080p though, games I played set to 60fps, and g-sync on with V-sync off. So, should I turn off g-sync and go into each game and turn on V-sync? I don't think the older game like Dark Souls has V-sync though?

I am cloning my main display to what the computer see's as the elgato display.

I will make sure and turn off game mode tonight on the encoding pc and do the log file tonight. I'll have to look up how to get the log file. Do you happen to know what most people can set encoding to on a dedicated machine with a Ryzen 1700? Is there a typical setting that people get away with or does everyone leave it to "veryfast?"

So your problem is probably G-Sync and cloning the display. The capture card won't know how to handle frames coming in at unpredictable intervals. Go ahead and turn G-Sync off, V-Sync on at 60fps and 1080p and see if it stops tearing, as a test (not a permanent change). There's a way people have gotten it to work without cloning but I have to look up the post.

Yeah, if there is a better way to do it without cloning and I just have to buy an adapter or splitter, I'm all for that. I want it to look amazing. I will stream Ghost Recon Wildlands tonight and get the log file off it. Do I just stream and then stop stream and download log file somewhere?

Not what I was looking for, but something I found: https://obsproject.com/forum/threads/g-sync-and-obs-possible-solution.50324

Finally found it: https://obsproject.com/forum/thread...ps-on-obs-recordings.23618/page-2#post-193160
Text description in the middle of this post: https://obsproject.com/forum/thread...ttings-confirmation-anyone.44101/#post-198505

I thought there was a nicer guide for this but I can't find it. Maybe someone knows where it is.

Check the stickied posts for how to find/get/post the OBS log file.

Were you directing me to the video link on that page, because the video is no longer available it says on YouTube? So, I don't know if I am having a problem with g-sync or not because I was getting more than 23fps on my stream which sounds like what they guy in the first link said was occurring for some people , but I will do those steps tonight and post the log file. I will turn off g-sync, turn on v-sync, should I set my monitor to 60Hz instead of 144? Can I have the game settings on max or should I turn them to like medium/high? My hope in doing the 2 pc setup was to get great quality to the stream and so far I think it looks slightly better streaming on just my gaming PC. :(

Also, it would only run at 60Hz, but is it better to run HDMI out of the capture card and into my gaming monitor and make the elgato my main display on my gaming pc? or am I confused and that won't work at all?

"Not sure" for much of what you asked because I've never done it myself, don't have G-Sync (yet). Shame that video is gone though. I felt like someone else made one too, but I can't find it. Anyways, the general idea is to "project the gameplay with obs to a fourth monitor which is the streaming PC's capture card". And then perhaps the gameplay itself can remain in G-Sync.

You don't want to watch the video off of your capture card, it would have a decent amount of delay. You shouldn't have to change your game's video settings at all.

Okay, sounds good. I have no problems not using g-sync and changing my settings to make the stream look good. So, I will turn it off and try what you initially told me. I will definitely start looking for a video on that type of setup though, as I will have to see it to figure it out.

I just discovered I made probably an important mistake. Under Nvidia settings, under Adjust desktop size and position, I had Perform scaling set to "display" instead of "GPU." Would that create issues?

Above, if it gets approved by mod, is another log file after Dark Souls play. Looked to be mroe tearing on that game. That was with gsync off, vsync on, 60Hz on gaming mnmitor.

Couple of questions

Is Dark Souls the only PC game you have problems with? Are you using DSFix?

What capture card do you have exactly, log says Elgato Game Capture HD

I am using DSFix. Dark Souls is worse, but Ghost Recon Wildlands still does it here and there. I have the Elgato HD60 pro, the internal PCI Express card. I get that Dark Souls is older and probably not optimized well. I just wanted a setup that I could set-up and would work good and look good on every game. It seems like I get the same graphical quality just streaming on my gaming PC, but also without any screen tearing. My initial goal with doing the 2 PC setup was for amazing graphical quality, while being able to play games on my gaming PC at best settings.

That is interesting. So there's no errors in your log and the HD 60 pro should be able to handle the res and FPS no problem. Can you post a link to a VOD showing the issue?

I've streamed DS myself using an HD60 pro and not noticed any major issues

Sure, just visit https://twitch.tv/levelinglucian. It would be the last few videos, I believe I put in the description "2 PC..."

I had my HD60 pro in my intel gaming PC at first and it worked fine with consoles. I then built the Ryzen 7 system and the HD60 pro would not work. It turns out the HD60 pro would not work in a PCIe 2.0 slot with the AM4 chipset. My motherboard only has 1 PCIe 3.0 slot for graphics. So, Elgato had me send in my HD60 pro and they sent me a new one with upgraded firmware to make it work on my Ryzen system. I wonder if this new card and them "making it work" could be buggy or be the issue? I will try streaming to it when I get my PS4 cables and can hook it up and see if there are any issues streaming with console. If there is, I will move the HD60 pro back to my Intel system and see if there is any difference.
