Question / Help 2 pc setup, desktop works, games black screen

I've been working through a 2pc setup using an AverMedia Live Gamer HD and OBS. I am able to stream to twitch successfully using the Recentral software, but when I set up OBS, I'm able to get the desktop of my gaming machine until I start a game. The screen then goes black, or at least mostly. I can see what appears to be a shrunken title bar that says the name of the game in it, but the game does not appear.

What I've looked at so far is ensuring that the resolution is not changing, which it is not. My gaming rig is a constant 1680x1050 120hz, and with Windows 10, I have that monitor cloned to the avermedia card in my streaming PC, and a second monitor in extend mode. What is getting me is that with the cloned output from my 290x, the resolution isn't changing, so I'm stumped as to why the stream preview would freeze when the game launches, and return once the game is closed, especially since I'm not changing resolution. It's almost like this is happening when something goes fullscreen or into 3d on the gaming PC side.

I am able to run heaven benchmark in windowed mode just fine, and seems I can run it in fullscreen mode as well. I wouldn't think any of this would matter though since I'm not trying to capture the game, window, monitor, etc, like I would in a one pc setup.

Again, all works with Recentral, but I am looking for OBS goodness. Thank you so very much for any help you can provide.

Try not cloning your monitor to LGHD, but replace it.

Hi Masuta, thank you for your reply. I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "replace it". Could you expand on that thought a little bit?

I'm not sure how I could duplicate my main monitor's game output to the LGHD any other way BUT cloning it to the Avermedia card installed in the other streaming PC from the Windows 10 standpoint. That's the only way to preserve the ability to play at 120hz on my main pc and still get that output over to the LGHD. And again, it works fine in recentral software this way, so I always thought if you can get it on the recentral software, there SHOULD be a way to get it configured properly in OBS.

I thought maybe it had something to do with the fact that it's running to the second pc via HDMI out from my 290x, but it happily displays the 120hz desktop and stuff running in windowed mode just fine. If the resolution doesn't change and the refresh rate doesn't change, I don't understand why starting a game would kill the feed.

I've figured out what the issue was. It seems that if I'm previewing stream, and I go from desktop to full screen in a game on my gaming pc, then the feed cuts out on the streaming PC. However, if I stop and start the preview again, once I've already launched the game, it works okay. Seems like an oddity with that one scenario I was stuck on. Thanks for being willing to assist!
