Question / Help Zoom setup instructions

Like many of us I am forced to conduct my lessons online. For someone, like me, who is totally new to all of this, it is really quite a struggle to set it all up. Youtube doesn't help much.

I have looked everywhere but I can't find clear (and accurate!) instructions on how to set up Zoom video conferencing.

If someone could provide a clear, step-by-step guide to set up Zoom with OBS, I am sure it would not only help me tremendously, but many others whom are now frantically trying to setup a smooth, professional online lesson system.

Thank you very much, in advance, for any helpful feedback!

Unfortunately, we cannot provide support for Zoom's software here.
They're a third-party application, and well outside the scope of OBS support.

To get you on the right track though, you'll need to install the OBS-VirtualCam plugin, which allows OBS to show up as a standard webcam in other applications (like Zoom) that only support webcam input. Then you just set up Zoom as normal, and select the virtualcam as the webcam to use during their setup process.

Note that the most recent version of Zoom (4.6.8) breaks the OBS-VirtualCam due to a "security feature" they added which seems to only allow whitelisted video devices.

(See the thread here: https://github.com/CatxFish/obs-virtual-cam/issues/78 )

You can either use 4.6.7 or (if you trust it, at your own risk) use the tool a commenter supplied in that linked issue to patch the 4.6.8 to remove the whitelisting check. (I suggest you also join the set of us opening support tickets with Zoom to complain about this.)

Thank you very much for your reply, I appreciate it. I'd like to join you in creating a support ticket with Zoom, just what exactly should I mention in that support ticket? Something like: "Can you please remove the whitelisting check for OBS Studio?"

I would say that you've upgraded to Zoom 4.6.8 and the new security feature added with dllsafecheck.dll breaks an important workflow, by preventing OBS VirtualCam from being used as a video source.

(And then be appropriately grumpy about how this makes Zoom unusable for you and so on ;) )
