Question / Help XCapture-1 New User Help

Hello, I just recently got an XCapture-1 Capture card and I can't seem to figure out how to use it. I've been tearing through the support forums and throughout the internet but all I'm getting is the feeling that I must be a complete moron because I can't even get one simple thing to work.

I bought the card because I would like to stream my WiiU gameplay through twitch.

So I have installed the drivers and the VideoKeeper2 software that came with the card and I was using an HDMI connection from the WiiU to the card (In) and an HDMI connection from the Card to the TV (Out) with the USB 3.0 plugged into my computer. I checked to see if the Wii U was displaying correctly on the TV and it was so I think I had that hooked up properly.

I then loaded up OBS to see if I could capture from the card as a source and it wasn't on there to be found. So then I tried using the software VideoKeeper2 that it came with to see if I could just use a window capture to capture the display from that program but the program won't display anything. It's just a black screen. Then I downloaded AmaRecTV to use the live display and tried the same thing but I'm getting the same black screen result.

This made me think that maybe I should try something other than an HDMI connection so I went out and bought the Composite cables for the Wii U and had an extra set of composite cables to use to connect to the TV in place of the HDMI cables except that it wouldn't even display on my TV at that point. The problem I noted of course was that my TV doesn't use Composite inputs (the Red, Yellow, and White cables) it uses Component inputs (The Red, Green, and Blue cables) So I got myself a set of Component cables and I have an component adapter cable for the capture card and I tried using them as my other connection from the card to the TV and it still isn't displaying.

So looking at what I was unable to accomplish my question is this. What am I doing wrong? I've heard nothing but good things regarding this card and saw multiple threads in support even here on OBS so it is most certainly something I am overlooking or doing wrong I just can't seem to fathom what it is.

My initial thought was that because the capture card itself wouldn't convert the composite to component directly that maybe that was the issue but if my TV doesn't support composite cables does that mean I need a new TV? It didn't sound right to me but I am really frustrated and just completely unsure as to what to do.

As far as specs on the computer I'm running Windows 7 sp1 64 bit and running OBS 64 bit (the latest one .064b) I'm not 100% certain what all information you would need from me but I would love to be able to start using this card so any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated!

if the software that came with your capture card is black there is an issue that you'll have to bring to the support # of that company who makes it or on their forums. once you get that working, OBS should capture it. you'll add a video capture device as a source and you should then see it from the dropdown window. but first get it to show the picture in the native software.

Yeah I've been in contact with them since yesterday but as the company is based out in Japan it takes long stretches of time to hear back from them. I figured since there are a few people on here that use the device that maybe they would have some insight as it would be a quicker response.

I appreciate the quick reply of course. Do you know if it should work with the HDMI cables at all?

Its always worth a shot, switch the two and see if it fixes it. also might try restarting your PC and/or trying a different USB 3.0 port. make sure its a 3.0 port as well.

I tried switching the cables, the ports, restarting several times. Nothing worked. It's so odd I feel like no one else who has used this card has had these issues since I'm seeing nothing about it on all of the websites I've visited.

I dont know what to say until you get in contact with the manufacturer.

As an update I got the card to be recognized by OBS as a Video Source but it just comes up black. Not displaying any actual footage. Any ideas?

did you first make sure you can get the video feed to the manufactures software? if you got that far, close that program, and while still feeding the capture card a picture, open OBS and remove the capture source, then add it as a global source, then set that global source with the scene source you need it in. sometimes I have to toggle between scenes to get a new capture source to show up.

After all that is done, close and reopen OBS, press preview for the capture card's scene, press stop, then upload that session's log and copy the link here.

What USB 3 controller does your PC have?

From what I've read the XCapture-1 requires a NEC/Renesas controller.

Howdy,

I have the XCAPTURE-1 card & it was the easiest thing of my entire set up, so there must be something happening somewhere & while it might be the XCAPTURE-1 I doubt it.

I installed the Micomsoft software which came with the card on my encoding computer (I have a dual PC set up) & then plugged the HDMI out from my gaming machine into the card & then into the USB of the encoding machine- worked like a charm.

All of the other software you have installed after the original blue CD which came with the XCAPTURE-1, is unknown to me.

A few things to keep in mind:

In OBS check the resolution to be sure it matches the input from the XCAPTURE-1 (which would be the native output of the WiiU (I think)). If this is different, then make adjustments in OBS as it can cause a black or red screen. This can also happen if you change the resolution mid-stream-- OBS from my experience doesn't like change on the fly.

When you installed the XCAPTURE-1 what USB port was it plugged into? Is it still in the same port? If I remember correctly, the XCAPTURE-1's software doesn't like the device moved to a different port after install.

And as ezoray above mentioned be sure the USB port you are using is a USB 3.0 as some machines have a USB 3.0, but also have USB 2.0 as well.

Best of Luck.

Same thing is happening to me.

I am testing with an xbox one. I am running from xbox to the HDMI in on the xcapture then another HDMI cable out from the xcapture to a second monitor. The signal is perfect on the second monitor.

I am connected to my PC via USB3.0. I am getting a black screen on the videokeeper2 screen as well as through OBS. I have tried adjusting all settings in video keeper with no luck. I get a spinning blue "thinking" graphic and then a black screen with some scratchy audio. eventually the black screen says "no signal." However, the video is passing through the xcapture perfectly to my second monitor.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled.

I have updated the driver for the xcapture.

I have updated the driver for my graphics card.

I still only get a black screen and some scrambled digitized audio that is inaudible on the PC.
