i want to use OBS to screen master-quality ProRes 422 HQs or h264 (i.e. not streaming or recording). I have a pretty well-spec'd computer (imac15,1; 4GHz i7; 32gb ram; AMD Radeon R8 M295X) but i'm still dropping frames significantly during playback (https://obsproject.com/forum/threads/media-source-mov-choppy.71208/). Why is my computer perfectly happy playing back the same file through VLC or Quicktime?
Question / Help why does OBS require more resources than VLC for playback?

Why are two programs written expressly for video playback better at playing video than a program made for screen recording and live streaming? I guess I don't know. I've never tried to do such a thing. I'll have to try it and see if it happens. What is the bitrate of the file you're trying to play?
