Question / Help Why can't I stream on this PC?

Intel-Core i7-4790 @ 3.6 Ghz
EVGA GTX 970
AsRock H97 Fatal1ty
16 GB DDR3 RAM

These are the specs of my computer, and I can't stream CS:GO in 30 FPS on basically the lowest settings possible despite having over 250 FPS in-game. I used to be able to stream 60 FPS in CS no problem, and once I got back into streaming again and downloaded OBS, I realized that my PC couldn't even stream anymore? If I turn any FPS above 30, even sometimes on 30, I will get a notification in the bottom left saying that says WARNING: High Encoding CPU Usage or something, but my CPU usage on my Task Manager is only ~60%.

Is this a bug with OBS or is my PC actually just too bad to stream CS because I don't really think it isn't. I've seen people stream fine on worse PC's.

The problem is the stream is really laggy and just pauses and is really choppy. How do I fix this?

I have tried using OBS Studio and I have the same problem on that. I will switch over there and try to copy my settings best and post the log. Where can I find it?

That log contains no stream/recording attempt. Try these steps:

Please post a link to a clean log file. To make a clean log file, first restart OBS, then start your stream/recording for ~30 seconds and stop it again. Make sure you replicate any issues as best you can, which means having any games/apps open and captured, etc. When you're done select Help > Log Files > Upload Current Log File. Copy the URL and paste it here.

Code:
17:08:47.295: Output 'adv_stream': Number of lagged frames due to rendering lag/stalls: 138 (2.2%)
17:08:47.295: Video stopped, number of skipped frames due to encoding lag: 1684/6118 (27.5%)

Looks like you're overloading your PC. Are you capping FPS in CS:GO at something reasonable (300 is not reasonable)?

Also, make sure that the Windows Game Mode is disabled. https://www.windowscentral.com/how-enable-disable-game-mode-windows-10-creators-update

I don't understand why this just started randomly happening though. Use to be able to stream 60 FPS no problem. Also, OBS says my CPU usage is only ~6.9%. And yes, game mode is disabled. What would you recommend doing?

And no, I have no FPS cap. I want to get as much FPS as possible, which makes sense.

You mean you want to make it so that your computer can't do anything else but render frames you never see.

Running a game without vertical sync or a frame rate limiter will frequently cause performance issues with OBS because your GPU will be maxed out. Enable vsync or set a reasonable frame rate limit that your GPU can handle without hitting 100% usage. If that's not enough you may also need to turn down some of the video quality options in the game.

It does not make sense to run at framerates higher than your display can handle.

I'd like to add that for some games, framerates (even when the display can not handle them) matter for in-game related stuff (e.g. longer / higher jumps on quake engine games, like old Call of Duty titles, e.g. 125, 250, 333 fps). If vsync is off, higher framerates also help with matching to the refresh rate if I'm not mistaken, I used to use 120 fps on my 60 hz monitor and it looked smoother. Higher than that is basically nonsense though, I wholeheartedly agree.

Games that are actually affected by FPS in terms of gameplay are few and far between, and generally older games which aren't even going to be able to come close to maxing out a modern GPU. But yes, there are some out there. Any FPS higher than your monitors refresh rate is a waste, and if it looked smoother it was definitely placebo.

I was referring to this: https://www.reddit.com/r/NoStupidQu...nt_more_fps_than_the_refresh_rate_of/d14idto/ although admittedly, it could be a wrong assumption to make, it does make sense to me. When I locked my fps with vsync the game didn't look as smooth as 120 fps and vsync off.

And anyone who claims they can actually tell a difference with the incredibly short amount of time monitors take to refresh the image is, again, a placebo.

I've heard all the arguments, and while they're technically correct, nobody can actually tell a difference in blind tests.
