Question / Help Which CPU would you recomend for "slowest" compression?

At the moment i'm using medium and it's working kinda okay.

I use an Avermedia Live Gamer HD for 1080p/60fps recording, and i'm looking to get another capture card for my camera soon, also 1080p/60fps.

I stream at 720p/60fps, 3500 bitrate.

What processor and cooling to get to process the slowest compression and do you think it would run okay with two capture cards?

Also, do you think it's worth it and just how much of a quality improvement are we talking about?

Not worth it. Medium runs from no difference to some difference (if your bitrate is high enough -but not too high- and you have a lot... no make that a TON of motion), so I wouldn't go for it.

That said the Intel 18-core Xeon that runs at 2.3GHz (but will boost itself to 3.6GHz/2.6GHz if cooled sufficiently, and you'll need to cool it sufficiently if you want this to even have a chance at working) would be the chip to go with... and if not, then go for 2 CPUs.

Example system: http://www.amazon.com/Premium-Works...=1456099333&sr=8-1&keywords=dual+xeon+18-core

Please note: The system linked above, I don't know the type of cooling subsystem it has, so you'll need to investigate further if you want to know if that particular system will work.

Note #2: This is not in anyway an official endorsement by anyone for anything, or even saying that the above specs will enable you reach your goal, or that you even need that much CPU power to reach said goal. It's just a guesstimate.

I have a 5960x, which boosts to 3.5Ghz, and it can run the slow preset at 720p60.

That's still a $1k CPU, and not really worth it. :D

Edit: The live gamer HD can only take in 1080p30 afaik.

Slowest definitely isn't worth the price premium. It's a minimal visual quality improvement over even Medium. And yep, the LGHD can accept a 1080@60 signal, but caps out at 1080@30 captured.

I believe it can capture 720@60 though... which would give you a native-resolution stream, providing the best quality. Downscaling will always make a stream look worse than native, and is mostly there for the convenience of only maintaining one set of art assets, and because few like to game at 720p on a 1080p-capable monitor.
