I'm pretty sure it should be able to handle 1080p30 at veryfast, others can comment to confirm or unconfirm.

yes the ivy bridge i5 is capable of 1080@30 should do a good job as a streaming rig but actually should also be able to handle gaming and streaming at once.

the real questions is what game you are trying to stream at 1080p

Thank you for the answers, does "veryfast" mean low or high quality?

It'll be a wide variety of games from old school RGPs to modern RTS and FPS. (SC2 and BF3/4 etc).

The reason why I want a dedicated rig is so that I can easily move it from the "office" to the living room if I want to stream some console games.

I'd still stick with an i7 myself... I'd expect an i5 to struggle a bit with 1080@30, even without the load of gaming at the same time. The i5 is definitely up to the task of gaming alone, though, and should be able to manage a 720@30 stream on Veryfast at the same time.
If I were in your shoes, I'd keep the i5 as a gaming machine, and splash out on a new high-end CPU for the streaming rig instead. It's what I'm planning to do when I build my dedicated stream-box.

Veryfast is the default quality; the slower, the higher quality output. An i7 will struggle pretty heavily at Medium (and sometimes at Fast) on 1080@30.

my honest opinion ... 720p@60 is way better than 1080p@30 especially for high motion games and usually a 3k bitrate is enough for both but thats just my opinion

its a nice idea if you have to move the rig a lot but me myself and i prefer a single machine for the simple usage :P

I might be able to get a good price on a i7-4770K (20% off), that should do the job without problems right?

Thanks, unfortunately I'm in Norway where there is 25% vat on "everything", but the price on the deal I have is about the same as that one + vat.
