Bug Report Webcam doesn't turn on when added as Video Capture Device

First off, I'd like to say that I'm glad video playback on the stream is already a "high" priority in the list of things to be added to the streaming client. I've been working closely with Ubisoft, trying to help promote their new Free 2 Play title, Ghost Recon Online. We've been using Twitch.tv (twitch.tv/ghostrecononline and twitch.tv/communityleaders) in combination with xSplit to stream in the past, however the xSplit client really causes some performance drops (FPS and such). We need the ability to stream trailers and community videos on the stream, on xSplit we just add the videos onto a scene and set them to play when the scene loads. That way we can just transition between out game/webcam scene to the videos fairly seamlessly. Hopefully the video file playback in OBS will work just as well, if not better (everything else about OBS seems much better than xSplit).

Onto the problem I'm currently having with OBS. When I try to add my webcam as a Video Capture Device (I'm assuming that's how I'm supposed to do it?), OBS doesn't seem to "activate" the webcam. The cam doesn't turn on, and I get no output in the stream preview/stage area at all. What I've been doing in the meantime is using the Software Capture option to just capture a portion of my webcams "Quick Capture" window... Not really ideal since I need to have that window open and visible on my monitor somewhere.

I have a Logitech HD Pro Webcam C910. I've included my logs below...

Re: Webcam doesn't turn on when added as Video Capture Devic

Dude, I've had the same problem for a while. The only way I was able to fix it was to adjust my resolutions several times and restart my computer several times. Then OBS eventually gave in to it working. I really do think this is something that needs to be looked at as well to be fixed but, you kinda posted a bug report in the feedback/suggestion forum so... Moderator? Wanna move the Topic plz? :)

This is somewhat of the wrong forum. I will be moving this if you don't mind. I actually don't quite have an answer because for some reason the log file reports that no error occurred. I would however like you to know that I have an almost identical model of webcam, the C920, and I have never once experienced a problem with it. Usually what I suggest when people report problems is to "mess with the output format" to see if that doesn't fix things but generally I've never had a single problem with the same webcam ever, so I am somewhat confused.

Move away!

I've tried both output options available to no avail. I've also tried a few different custom resolutions.

Is there anything specific you need to do to activate the camera? I had assumed that hitting preview stream or start stream would be all that is required.

You can try changing the format to MJPEG which seems to help some people(sadly not all).
Other options would be to try out different drivers, if you have the Logitech drivers try out the default ones that get used when you plug it in the first time, and vice versa.
The other option I can offer is to try and plug it in a different USB port which uses a different USB controller than the port you are using now. This is pretty much just a guess of mine, but it may lead to some success.

I have the exact same issue, I have a Logitech Webcam C270 and the webcam driver doesn't recognize OBS, it used to do it on previous versions but not since 0.47

I've tried changing the output method, and I had read that changing to MJPEG was the way to go. Unfortunately MJPEG is not an option for me:

Edit: Just tried a different USB port and adding the camera AFTER hitting "Preview Stream". It appears to be working now! Using I420.

Still doesn't work for me, my Logitech driver controller turns ON, but it doesn't recognize OBS, like I said, it used to in previous versions. I'll attach a couple of screenshots:

OBS2.jpg

EDIT: It's working now, I removed the output format

Now I just need the ability to crop the size of the webcam and we'll be set. Looks like that was already suggested in another thread though.
