Video lag and stuttering while recording (log included)

Hey everyone!

I’ve been having some issues while recording with OBS, my video keeps lagging and stuttering a lot, even when I’m just recording simple scenes. Sometimes it freezes for a second and then continues.

Here’s my OBS log: https://obsproject.com/logs/q0yfYVHi8uwaExOk

My PC specs:

  • CPU: Intel Core i5-4590 @ 3.30GHz
  • GPU: Intel HD Graphics 4600 (integrated)
  • RAM: 8 GB
  • Storage: HDD (WDC WD5000AAKX-60U6AA0)
  • System: Windows 10 64-bit
  • OBS version: 32.0.1
  • Recording settings: 1080p, 60fps, bitrate 4500 Kbps

I know my specs aren’t the best but I’m not doing anything heavy — just recording light gameplay or screen capture. I’ve already tried lowering the bitrate and resolution, but the lag is still there.

Any ideas on what settings I could use to make my recordings smoother, or if there’s something wrong in my log?

Thanks a lot in advance!

1. Display and Window/Game captures should have their own scene.
2. Your log contains no recording session. Results of this log analysis are limited. Please post a link to a clean log file.
To make a clean log file, please follow these steps:

1) Restart OBS.
2) Start your recording for at least 30 seconds. Make sure you replicate any issues as best you can, which means having any games/apps open and captured, etc.
3) Stop your recording.
4) Select Help > Log Files > Upload Current Log File. Send that link here.

This is way below Windows 10's requirement. Either add memory or replace this computer.

Newer versions of OBS don't work with the QuickSync hardware encoder built into your CPU which you need for performance. You need to downgrade OBS to v29 or older (whatever version makes QuickSync work again). Otherwise you'll be encoding video on your CPU, which likely can't handle running everything and encode video at the same time.

Other things I'd do in addition:
- Lower your resolution to 720p. Your weak integrated graphics needs as much breathing room as it can get.
- Lower your FPS to 30 FPS again to alleviate the load on your weak integrated graphics.
- Make sure your game is using low graphics settings and is limited in FPS so it isn't hogging resources on your weak integrated graphics.
