So, I'm uploading a tutorial on YouTube, but I want to change the file format, so that I can edit, then publish said video. I change the extension to several things that could work, Like mp4 for example. When I try opening the file in windows movie maker, the file cannot be played. I don't know if this is a problem with the file format, or windows movie maker. Anyone know anything about this?

I think Windows Movie Maker generally likes MP4 files and MP3 audio; FLV and AAC make it poop. If your videos are saved as FLV or have AAC audio you can use FFmpeg to convert the necessary parts - https://obsproject.com/forum/resources/how-to-convert-flvs-to-mp4-fast-without-re-encoding.78/
