Question / Help Vewer Selectable Quality?

Hi Folks:

Some Twitch streams allow the viewer to select the quality of the download, so they can get a satisfactory frame rate.

Is this a Twitch feature or an OBS feature? How do I offer it?

Thanks

Thanks R1CH:

I'll never become a popular Twitch streamer, unless my horrible game play becomes so comically bad as to go viral.

I don't know what a Twitch partner is.

A skilled World of Tanks player has offered to platoon and hold training rooms with NOOBs like me who are trying to get better.

Only 3 people can be in a platoon, the instructor and two NOOBs. Others of this small group of students might benefit from watching a stream of the platoon through Twitch.

You're telling me that viewer selectable quality isn't available on free Twitch accounts.

Thanks, that answers my question.

Yep, transcoding (quality options) are only available to Twitch Partners, and non-partners who surpass a certain (undefined and changing) viewer level (who then keep them until the end of their stream).

This is a Twitch-side thing, not something you can turn on and off in OBS. Though Twitch *has* mentioned considering allowing streamers to send multiple quality levels of stream. But that'll eat more CPU and bandwidth, if they ever DO implement it.

The only way you can get transcoding options as a non-partner is to have lots of viewers at a single time (more than ~50 or so).
