Question / Help Using Elgato HD, no game audio

Hi, I'm new. Today was the first day I tried OBS and I'm having some issues with streaming.

I'm using an Elgato Game Capture HD as my capture card. Currently when I stream to twitch using the OBS software the video is great, but there is no game audio. My microphone works fine with streaming though, there is just no game audio.

I don't exactly know how to approach this problem so any help would be great. Here is the log of a test stream I did and there was not any game audio.

22:21:26:

I think I included everything you need to help me. If I messed up let me know and I can fix it. Thank you.

For one, make sure you enable "Use buffering" on the Elgato device source.

Also, why do you have 2 different microphone devices set in your audio settings?

I have enable "use buffering". I set it to 2ms. Should it be something different?

For audio settings, are you asking about the desktop audio device and the microphone/auxiliary audio device being two different things? They both should have been my headset, the Microsoft Lifechat 3000-XL.

I'm still not able to stream game audio using OBS and my Elgato capture card. Is there any solution to this issue? I have included another log file, this time showing that I have enabled buffering and I disabled my microphone, if you thought that was an issue.

I don't see any problem reported with its audio. It should be working fine. It's not muted in the properties is it? Also, it's set to "output to stream" right? You won't hear it from your computer if you do, you'll just hear the output of it on your stream only.

I have selected "Output to stream" and then viewed my stream from the Twitch dashboard and there was no game audio. A buddy of mine joined my stream and he couldn't hear anything on his system either.

I have also tried "Output to desktop" and didn't hear any game audio through my speakers when streaming.

I have also double checked to make sure it wasn't muted in the properties. The red bar for volume is set at maximum.

I believe this problem is related to the OBS software, since if I use Elgato's streaming software or XSplit, the game audio works fine. Which is a shame since I was looking forward to using OBS since it is free. If there isn't a solution I'll just ahve to deal with using XSplit then, since it works currently.

I will admit that OBS does not work perfectly with elgato, but the only known issue with it is that it only captures the elgato at 720p. For audio, I've just never heard of such an issue with audio happening before. Do what you must, but do realize I was only trying to help. I wanted to help, which is why I asked those questions. I just simply have genuinely not heard of this happening before with the elgato, because I know a number of people who use it without problems, that's the reason why I asked those questions.

I can't stop you from believing what you want to believe. Based upon the evidence for you, that's a perfectly logical conclusion, but do try to keep in mind that I am the author and deal with these devices all the time, so it would be nice if you at least tried to hear me out, and take my prior experience with other users in to account.

Anyway, I don't know exactly what it is you're streaming with your elgato. Xbox has been known to be fine. Most consoles have been known to be fine. I also don't see any report of error with the audio from the device in the log. It reports it initializing fine. Is it capturing audio from your mic or system at all?

I wasn't trying to sound snarky or bash the OBS software, I apologize if I came off that way. Perhaps I was a little cold in that post. I appreciate your help very much.

I have been trying to stream the Nintendo Gamecube's Gameboy Player playing a gameboy game. The output of the GCN is fed into the component adapter for the Elgato HD. The Elgato HD then outputs HDMI to my television and USB to my laptop which is what I'm trying to capture with OBS. If you think it is worthwhile to try a different system I can rig one up and test it.

OBS captures my microphone audio just fine when I use it. I had disabled it for the last log though.

Hm, interesting. I actually have a gamecube gameboy player too, though no elgato to test with. I really do have to buy an elgato when I get around to rewriting all that code to make sure I get them working 100% when I get to that code again.

Yea, it would be interesting to know if it happens with other systems or not. I have heard of it having issues with one system, I don't remember exactly what system it was, but it was an older console, although the issue was related to video rather than audio.

It could indeed be an issue with OBS this time when the elgato's used with this particular console, but you'd have to plug it in to another (preferably more common) console to be able to verify that or not.
