Question / Help Using capture card to stream instead of OBS

So I have a capture card(avermedia live portable), and I was wondering if I can just use OBS to control the volume and stuff like that, but let the capture card do all the recording because whenever I use the capture card with OBS it's still using most of my CPU which drops my frames a lot. I'm saying this because when I stream with the program it came with (RECentral) it gives me no frame drops when I stream, but the only downside is that I can't put a delay on or look at the program while streaming. So is there any way to use the capture card to do all the recording & use OBS as a control panel kinda tool?
Thanks.

C985 encoding -might- be available in the future, I know how to get it working somewhat, but it's a bit difficult. Problem is the quality is really poor, the quality is equivalent to using either superfast or ultrafast even, you may as well just run x264 at that rate with those presets instead.

Maybe at some point, eventually. But AVerMedia's hardware encoding looks like crap anyway, even if it does get support; you'll get much the same effect just by going to a faster encoding preset.
If possible, try using QuickSync if your motherboard/CPU supports it. Better visual quality, almost no CPU utilization.

With the C985 in 3rd part programs, you can only use the card as a capture source or as an encoder, not both simultaneously. If the LGP encoder was exposed somehow (I don't think it could be, since that would require sending uncompressed video over USB 2.0 to the device) then chances are you couldn't use it to capture.
