Question / Help Unrelated Computer Crash leaves video files that won't play

Hi, I'm not concerned about OBS crashing itself, rather the issue arises if the computer crashes while I'm recording the video file is still there and still as large as it should be, however it won't play and has no value for length or things like that.

Is there a way to avoid or recover the footage? If the data is all there I'm confused as to why I wouldn't be able to play it.

Any help is much appreciated.

Record in .FLV instead of .MP4. And no, AFAIK there is no way to fix a corrupt MP4.

Is there any downsides to switching to .FLV instead of .mp4?

Not all media players and video editors handle FLV containers properly/well/at all, so you may need to remux back into MP4 if you plan to do any editing.
