Question / Help Two streamers one stream

First of all thanks for taking the time to offer some help.

Me and a buddy are trying to launch our stream. We're looking for a way to stream 2 screens (both of our game prospective) 2 Web cams but stream to the same twitch account. We're in the same room/house so it wouldnt need to be over the Internet just a local set up. I saw 2 streamers doing exactly what we're after. They said we both need internal capture cards. But their description of what to do after that was very vauge. Ive been looking up some cards and here is where my problem starts. There's alot of options. We both use 120hz monitors, so we're not using hdmi were using dvi-d cables. I haven't seen any cards with dvi-d slots, only hdmi.

So my first question is, if we switch to hdmi will we notice any performance drops.

What internal capture card should we use?

How would we configure them? Would we need a third computer to capture and steam everything And will that computer need some hardware so it can receive input from both computers?

Be prepared for a little bit of headache before you get it right. If each PC has a cap card then you'll need a 3rd PC to be your encoding PC,

OR use one of the two PCs to encode the local stream and one of the other cap cards, but that Pc will be under quite a bit of load so it should be of top spec. I would recommend the first option.

if a cap card is being used, plug in the cap card's HDMI to an open port on each CPU, then clone the display. for nVidia this will work easily with one being 120Hz and the other being 30 or 60.

AMD works as well but I've also seen AMD catalyst lower the Hz of the main monitor.

After that, I think each cap card will need to go to the stream PC and set up your scenes there.

Should have done this in the original post.

Pc1 specs
8 core cpu at 3.5ghz
16 gb ddr3 ram
Asus amd 9750 2gb card.

Pc2 specs
6 core cpu at 3.2ghz
8 gb ddr3 ram
Asus amd 9850 3 gb card.

How would the third pc receive input from the capture cards? And what would the specs need to be on this pc? Heavy on the cpu for encoding? Would it even need an aftermarket gpu?

Any recommendations for capture cards?

both capture cards would be in the third PC and each Pc clone the output of the main display. hopefully these are PCIe cap cards?

I'm assuming the 8core is an AMD and the 6core is an Intel? those are about the same but the hexcore I believe has the edge on streaming performance depending on the model #

What are you planning to stream at?

720@60? 1080@30? does each Pc have its own cam?

Both amd. I'm not home so I can't give you exact model numbers.

Plan on streaming at 1080@30. Yes each pc will have its own cam. But I'm assuming we can plug them into the streaming computer.

This third pc is going to be heavy cpu heavy ram Correct? I'm going to build it and I'm assuming I won't need to get some crazy card.

dedicated would be best, but if your 6core is AMD as well then your 8 core would be better ofc.

best recommendations would be to overclock that 8core 8320?, and use that as your dedicated then rebuild your 1st gaming PC

Are your Cap cards PCIE?

Seeing your 2 PC`s specs I would also go for a 3rd PC to create the stream if possible. The streaming PC can be just a "normal" streaming build. Since you are going for 1080p 30fps I would probably recommend an i7 or similar E3 (xeon). 4-8gigs of ram will be totally enough.
Definitely put some time into looking for the best capture card, pci-e ones will have less delay problems than usb2/3 ones. Some devices will not work twice in one PC, for example you cannot use 2-Elgato's on a single PC. Apart of that you will probably just need a HDMI input on each of them or a card with 2 HDMI inputs (these will probably be more expensive).
Avermedia and Black Magic should both have devices available that should suit your needs.

I know you guys are recommending a third computer, but I think we're going to go cheapest to expensive first. I think we'll buy a capture card, and run it into my computer (8 core) and try and stream from mine. If that doesn't work well work the third pc route.

Any recommendations for a pcie cap card? I'd like to buy the first one, try it and if it doesn't work still use it for the streaming pc build.

with a setup like that, you just need one cap card as you said in the stream/game PC (recommend the 8core). On the second PC, clone the display to the cap card on the first use OBS to capture the game locally, and the cap card's scene. as for the web cams, make sure each USB cam/mis is on its own USB hub in device manager.

Jack0r recommended a Avermedia and Black Magic so go with one of those that will stream at 1080@30. buy a cap card that you can afford to buy a second if that case comes later.

How would we manage the audio? Would both audio feeds come through on the stream or could we set up a hot key to switch between his and mine?

Again, thanks for the help guys I appreciate it.

Not sure about this actually, you mean game audio or mic audio?

game audio can be setup via scenes since if you are watching from the cap card, the audio would be piped from there. as for your mics you will need to set that up probably with the webcam's mics or whatever

I've got a blue yeti mic I can put between us it should be able to pick up both of us pretty clearly. Then we've got headsets for ingame audio. I'll mess around with this once we get the capture card Going.

Thanks guys! I'll try and post a video of it working once we get there.
