Question / Help Twitch Stream Blur/pixelation

I'm relatively new to streaming, I have followed all the twitch guides for streaming. Below is my log, my machine has ample amount of power to preform these tasks as well. I also posted my speedtest results for my ISP which should be ample amounts of bandwidth to also preform the task. I have tried multiple configurations as recommended on other sites which also show in the log. I am using the nvidia nvenc feature as I've noticed it does allow me to continue good frame rates in game without reducing the framerate of the stream. My issue is, when I have movement on the screen it blurs or pixelates. If anyone has any solution, please let me know.

You could downscale it to 720p and maybe bump up the framerate to 60. Pixelations or blocks hugely depends on the game you're trying to capture as well. It might be just the GPU encoding which is one of the reasons I never use them as the quality will suffer.

Actually I tried downscaling, but got the same result. In fact at this second I'm streaming @720P 30fps (also tried 60 but didnt get any results and over all made the game tearing bad). Also tried disabling GPU encoding, pixelation was slightly better but still getting it and once again made game tearing quite irritable.

Anyway you could try a slower preset if your rig can handle it. I usually settle for the 'faster' (and not veryfast) preset as it produces less blocks overall. Anyway I have no idea how WoW is supposed to look, never streamed it myself :)


My mistake, forgot I changed it as I didn't see a performance hit. I tried setting the video encoder to high quailty low latency as well as the x264 setting to "faster" with no change.

You're going to get pixellation and poor video quality as you're using NVENC. Hardware encoders are notorious for delivering extremely poor quality. The tradeoff is offloading the work from the CPU to the GPU, allowing a system with a weak CPU to livestream.

Disable NVENC. Your CPU should be more than beefy enough to handle 1080@30 at the default Veryfast (or even a step or two lower, for even better image quality).

The only way to get around the video degradation of a hardware encoder is to throw more bitrate at it. As you're already at the Twitch recommended maximum, this isn't an option. You may be able to get away with 720p@30fps (effectively using a high bitrate for this, to compensate for the craptastic NVENC encoder), if you can live with that downscale and framerate.

I feel like this might not be entirely accurate as I've seen immaculate streams with hardware encoding.

It entirely depends on the content and the bit rate they are streaming at. Twitch doesn't want to stream above 3500kbps, but some people ignore Twitch and do it anyway. When they do that, Twitch considers it an abuse of their system, though they have not started enforcing a bit rate limit yet (though they very well may someday).

Furthermore, low-motion video is easier to encode, so someone could get a good looking stream if there's not a lot moving around on screen.
