Question / Help Twitch initiating stream is deleayed

It seems like there is a long gap from the time I hit stream, to the time it actually starts displaying anything on twitch. In the meantime I lost a lot of footage. Is this something to do with OBS or twitch?
 
Also with regards to your lost footage, do you mean it's not showing up on Twitch in past broadcasts? You have to specifically enable the automatic saving of broadcasts now in Twitch settings.
 
There's an inherent delay to streaming you can never get around, 7-10 seconds is normal. You're recording data, encoding it, then sending it out to Twitch. Twitch then does the voodoo that they do to distribute it to viewers. The whole process takes a bit of time.

If you're experiencing a delay of over 10 seconds, then there might be a problem somewhere along the line.
 
Yep. Getting a stream started up takes a bit to initialize and normalize. It's one reason a lot of streamers use a coming-online splashscreen... sometimes with background music, followed by an intro (music or devoted video) to provide an audio-cue for anyone who has showed up for the 'pre-stream'. MANvsGAME is an excellent example of this, with about a 10-15 minute lead-in to let people gather up, a video intro to signal the show-start, and into the cast.
