Is there a way to do this to your channel from within OBS like xsplit and I'm just blind and can't find it? Or is it a planned feature at all?

Doable yes, not implemented yet, and no priority. I guess since there are ton's of other things more serious to attack you have to wait for this some while or you can code a plugin for this yourself using obs api

Did Twitch add an API to change "Now Playing"? Last I checked, the API was limited to the Justin.tv API, so there wasn't a way to change Now Playing. Did they add it recently?

Read the changelog and see if there were.

TL;DR -- No.

This might be added if the streaming services portion of the OBS code was more modularized, but until then I don't really see this happening. This is a general streaming program, not just a Twitch program. For now, use Dashboard Lite like Krazy suggested.
