Question / Help Trying to port mp4 files into Sony Vegas

But Vegas 11 often has problems with mp4s. I was advised that I should change the codec to MPEG-4 but I'm not quite sure how to do this. Should I just download an mp4 to avi converter?

I personally use the K-Lite Codec Pack (Mega version, installed with the Lots of stuff option for all codecs). Though I currently use Vegas 12, I switched to it from vegas 9 some time ago and used the videos in vegas9 before without problems.
In OBS just make sure you use AAC as the audio codec under encoding settings. (MPEG4 is kinda always used for video, either using x264 or h264 (if you use quicksync or nvenc)and no matter if you save as flv or mp4 with OBS) Then activate the "Use CFR" checkbox in the advanced settings, and thats about it.
If that does not help, please tell us what exactly happens if you try to import such a video file into Vegas11. Does only the audio import and no video or do you get an error?

Thanks Jack. I think I should just download the codec pack since this isn't the first time I've had it recommended. I already use the settings the you recommended. I think the problem is probably on Vegas' part. Sometimes I get massive flickering in previews and sometimes I get insane amounts of render lag.

Edit: I replaced the compound plugin with the older quicktime plugin and it works now. Say Jack, since you seem to use OBS and Vegas, would you mind sharing what settings you use to record in HD for porting into Vegas?
