Question / Help Trying to get Magewell USB capture card to capture a5100

Good evening!

Been tinkering trying to get picture from a Magewell USB Capture HDMI hooked up to a Sony a5100.

Camera is rigged up with dummy battery and micro HDMI into the Magewell. Have looked at several videos to make sure the cam settings are where they need to be. still no signal :(

I don't have any experience with the Sony a5100, but I do with the magewell.

Make sure your firmware is updated on the magewell. Mine was not updated on purchase, and it had weird bugs like outputting 50fps for a 60fps source. You can get the software from their website, should just be a standalone usb management software. Firmware update button is on the first tab of the program.

With updated firmware, the magewell should have no problem doing any sort of conversion to get a signal to OBS (the built-in scaler on the magewell will do any necessary resolution conversion), so if it's not feeding you anything, then the issue will most likely be on the camera's side.
