Question / Help Transcoding 3840x2160 60fps MP4 to WEBM, best settings?

Hi,

I am using OBS to screen capture 3840x2160 60fps in H.264 in a MP4 container.

I included a LOG file showing my current settings.

The issue rests in the transcoding the encoding from OSB MP4 to WEBM.

I am arriving at 5 minutes of recorded video from OBS takes 1:30 miinutes to convert to WEBM.

I have 2 i7-3960 3.3, 49gb RAM, Windows 7 64-bit and working off a 2tb SSD.

I am using FFMPEG with the myFFMPEG interface as it is easier to process for me. I have Max. batch threads set to 8 and CPU Cores set to 12 which they are all engaged.

I have to record 30 minutes worth of screen capture and I am thinking of how to minimuze the amount of time it takes for that to be processed.

Is the 5 minute transcode of 1:30 minutes a good indicator if I was to transcode 6x that amount of time it would be 6x lengthier to transcode?

Any suggestions on what FFMPEG settings I can use to reduce the transcode time and the application I use, myFFMPEG, can accept arguments.

Thank you kindly for through and looking forward to your response!

Thomas

Just to clarify, your question has nothing to do with OBS, correct? You appear to be asking for FFmpeg support. Transcoding time will depend on both your x264 settings and the content; high motion takes longer than low motion/still shots.

Hi,

I am at a loss and unsure where I might be able to save time on 30 minutes of OBS H.264 screen capture that takes 3.5 hours to transcode to WEBM.

If there is anything I can do at the OBS level, settings perhaps, to reduce that time where OBS would play. I figured I would explain the entire process in the hopes of someone could point me to a solution regardless of which part of the workflow. So, support in any of the steps including OBS is being sought.

I am using these recommended settings:

You feel x264 settings can improve transcode time?

How about using a different container completely and the transcoding?

Thank you.
