So, I was thinking of getting a laptop strictly for streaming. I already have a gaming desktop and consoles. I'm not looking to game or game and stream on the laptop. What kind of requirements should I be looking for? I shouldn't need a gaming laptop right?

I'm looking to run 720p at 60fps and the laptop around $500-$700.

Thanks guys

If you're looking to buy a laptop to act as an encoder for a 2PC setup, don't. You'll need to use a USB capture device (which are more expensive) and pay quite a bit more for laptop hardware that will support streaming. Especially a beefy CPU, which don't generally sit well wit the small thermal envelope laptops get to deal with.

Better to buy a Shuttle system with a strong i7. It'll be cheaper, upgradable, and you'll be able to use a PCIe capture device which generally perform better to boot. Plus with the extra space in the case, you'll have an easier time keeping the CPU cool while it grinds away. Real-time video encoding is a HEAVY task.

Not likely to get that in a laptop form factor at the price point you've listed, while a SFF desktop could, with effort, squeak into that budget range with some solid hardware and better options.

Get a very fast CPU and any cheap, compatible graphics. Cheap low power graphics or integrated graphics like intel HD graphics 2000 or better will do, and a fast i7 or better is preferred. I have i7-2600 with intel HD graphics 2000, works for me as a streaming computer.

As far as capture devices I do own a usb based capture device. I should have mentioned that. I work at a retailater store where I happened to see an asus laptop with i7 6500, gt 940, and 8gb of ram. Would this be able to handle it. It's around $700 cuz it's an returned product that was lost in inventory.

I'm feeling a bit lazy and don't want to put together my own desktop. Could someone make suggestions as to where I can purchase a dedicated streaming build? I'm not looking to do any gaming on this build, just to capture and stream.
