Question / Help Stuttering starcraft 2 while steaming

I am getting a bit of stuttering when I stream starcraft 2 (low detail). I do not think it is the internet, since it still occurs when I am playing offline. I am not sure whether my computer cannot handle it or that my OBS settings are wrong.

Processor: Intel Core i3-2100 3.1GHz Dual-Core Processor
graphics card: XFX Radeon HD 6850 1GB Video Card (not home right now but I will give more details when I am)

Either way are there some settings in OBS that I can change to get better preformance? I couldnt find any threads that gave suggestions, and I dont want to screw around too much with the defaults. Thanks

first, check to make sure that if you are using monitor capture, that you have aero disabled/off - having aero enabled with monitor capture can reduce performance.

outside of that - there are a few options to reduce CPU usage in OBS. try one or all of them and see if they improve performance:

1.) make sure your desktop audio is set to 44100 Hz. you do this by going to control panel->sound settings (or typing in mmsys.cpl into start->run), then selecting your current sound output, then properties, then selecting the defails/advanced tab or whatever it's called, the last tab -- in that tab, you'll see an option for sample rate. make sure it's set to 44100 Hz. that will reduce CPU usage in OBS because otherwise it has to resample it sound back to 44100.

2.) downscaling in video settings will reduce CPU usage because it will mean there's less data to encode, but your output will be smaller.

3.) if you don't necessarily want to downscale, set your "x264 CPU preset" in advanced settings to superhigh or ultrahigh. that will lower CPU usage by the encoder, but at the cost of certain aspects of quality.

4.) try seeing if v-sync in your game helps. v-sync helps for some people, because it helps balance GPU usage between OBS and your game.

What Jim said, plus, if you happen to be able to use DXTORY, you will have less stutter compared to monitor capture. At least until Jim can implement gamesource capture in OBS itself. DXtory is not free, tho.

Unfortunately with a dual core CPU you don't have much CPU left for streaming, SC2 itself will happily max out a dual core system unless you artificially limit your FPS.

Thanks for the replies, I appreciate it. So is it mainly my processor that is the limiting factor? Would the i5 probably work better? I am still going to try the steps that Jim has suggested and see what I can do for now. Thanks again guys.

Edit: Tried all the things Jim suggested, no such luck. I tried just lowering the fps all the way down (in OBS) and the stuttering stopped, which makes me think it's just computer performance issue.
