Question / Help Streaming Old Games

I would really like to stream Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 2. I bought it on steam and am running Windows 7. I have tried Window Capture, Monitor Capture and Game Capture and nothing is working too well. If I run Game Capture, the game launches, OBS streams the title screen and then the second I hit "start game" it just goes to a black screen and nothing happens. Basically the game just crashes and it crashes because of OBS because if I just start the game normally without OBS running, it's fine, no problems.

If I use Monitor or Window Capture the result is the same. The game runs but every time there is a cut scene it appears as a tiny little cut scene in the upper left corner of the stream and all the viewers can see is my steam library w/ a tiny little Soul Reaver cut scene over it in the top left. That being said, the game itself runs just fine w/ monitor or window capture but every time we hit a cut scene, it looks terrible.

Does anyone have a suggestion? I have tried running it in windowed mode with dxwnd and the game won't even play while windowed on DX8 setting. It just crashes every time I hit "start game". I have tried all kinds of settings and I just can't figure it out. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Edit: I also think it has something to do with the resolution of the cut scene. If I run the game, hit "start game" and then alt+tab out of it and start running OBS w/ Game Capture selected, then the cut scene appears on OBS just fine, looking pretty good. The second the cut scene is over though, the game crashes. So the crash is happening as the game is making a transition from game to cut scene and back to game again. The game and the cut scenes have different resolutions and as soon as it switches from game to cut scene or vice versa the crash happens.

Unfortunately, OBS can only capture DX9 and newer smoothly. Some DX8 support is present, but it's unreliable.

Try using a Game Capture of the DWM process (Win7 Monitor Capture workaround that doesn't suck) and crop it down to just your game. You *may* need to disable Aero to get it to capture correctly, but try with Aero on first as it makes OBS run significantly better overall. Still may not work, but it's a shot.

Would love to try this but I can't get the game to run in windowed mode. It doesn't have an option for windowed mode and the work around that I tried, dxwnd, does not work. The game will open in a window but the second I hit "start game" it crashes. The DWM only shows my desktop monitor, when i start the game in full screen it doesn't capture it at all. Thanks for the suggestion, if I can get dxwnd to work maybe this will be the way to go.
