Hiya!

First off, this software is amazing. It completely destroys XSplit/FFSplit. With that said, I'm having an issue. We tried to capture Saints Row 3 tonight, and while it worked and the quality was very good, when I went to go check the recording, it appears the stream was disconnect/reconnecting frequently. Quick system specs: Win7 64 bit, i5 2500k @ 4.0ghz, Nvidia GTX 670, 8 gigs of ram. I was capturing at 30fps, Quality 8, using the 32 bit version of OBS, and Saints Row 3 was in Windowed Mode. I was capturing the "inner window" area (great feature, by the way). I had Aero turned off. I was using a 2500 bitrate just to test. My internet is 50mbps down/10mbps up and I'm generally very stable, so I don't think it's my Internet.

So what gives? The little quality icon was green the whole time at the bottom and I don't think I dropped any frames. Should I be using the 64 bit version if I'm capturing screen area? Also, I don't think I can capture "gamesource" with the 64 bit version. If I can fix this issue, I'd have no reason to use anything else ever. This is such impressive software for free!

I know that most of these cases are related to frame drops, and the fact that xsplit would silently reconnect. If you drop too many frames the server can disconnect you, but I'm keeping an eye on things in case it's something else I'm overlooking, so don't think I'm brushing it aside either. Again, I know there are people who have streamed like 12 hours (for whatever reason) perfectly fine, and there are some people who say they get disconnects. My best suggestion is to try to make sure your framerate and your connection are both stable.

Also, if you have send buffering on, try turning it off, or vise versa. Not sure if that will change anything, but I'd like to know if it does or not. I can't say for sure what it is at this point, but if you could help me get more info, that would be helpful

I got this problem only since the 461 Version...so there must be a bug in this version wo make this problems....i use after this the older versions and everything is ok again

EDIT: And no i dont use the buffer option...its everything default...the only thing i change are the Encoding, Audio and Broadcast Settings...ok and at Advanced the x264CPU Preset but not more ^^

I did a test recording of DayZ this morning at a 3000 bitrate capture. All other settings were left alone. I used "gamesource" capture and added it via globalsource per your suggestion in the tutorial video:

I did not notice any dropped frames and the quality looked as good as it can be for a non-partnered Twitch channel, but I only recorded for 20 minutes or so. What do you think?

and just a tip...when u got no partnership, dont turn the quality so high...your viewer must have a good internet connection to watch this because u stream with 1080p

The viewer cant choice what quality they want to use because u dont got the partnership and they must use what u give them...and people with lower internet cant watch your stream without lags

In case I don't catch you on the chat, Jim, I tested without the send buffer and the stream restart still happened around 2.5 hours into the stream. It's surprisingly consistent haha.

I understand what you're saying, but anything below 3k is compressed and not very good looking, although it is smooth. I can use a 5k bitrate with FFSplit and it's crystal clear, although I get a lot of dropped frames.

Guys, please use a separate topic for questions / problems unrelated to the disconnects.

Looks like we might have found the root cause of the disconnection issue. RTMP servers continue sending packets after the handshake that OBS was not processing, we're not 100% sure but logically this could explain the disconnections.

Could you guys try out this version and see how things go? We just updated the code with some stuff that might prevent random disconnects -- but not entirely sure as of yet. Need anyone who is having this issue to test it out for extended periods and see if there's a difference.

I have had a problem that causes me to disconnect/reconnect every 4-5 hours... and its always around that mark.. nothing seems to help.. and i have a few friends with the same problem aswell... dunno, maybe someone else experiences the same?

edit: it has been a problem since i started using OBS in early 0.4 versions
