Stream keeps crashing, have updated BIOS and done a clean install of GPU drivers

Most recent log file with the crash:

Hi, I've recently encountered the following error:

(NV_ENC_ERR_INVALID_DEVICE): Device passed to the API is invalid.

This has been a relatively new occurrence and I'm having trouble determining the source of the problem. I can stream from OBS just fine without playing games and I can play my games normally just fine too. But, if I stream the games that I play, eventually my stream crashes altogether. I stream games like Nioh 2 and Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge which have never been that demanding on my system at all.

As mentioned in the title, I have reached out to NVIDIA for support as I thought it was a GPU issue. I updated my BIOS just today and performed a clean install of my GPU drivers as advised by NVIDIA support. But, despite that, I'm experiencing the same issues.

Also, on prior streams, OBS has informed me that my encoder is overload (which is a complete surprise to me because it's been a non-issue for many months).

I am a complete novice to troubleshooting this and would sincerely appreciate any guidance that is provided.

GPU driver crashed & it's also overloaded, lots of rendering lag. You may need to shed some load but get your driver sorted first & then see the link below.

With my PC disconnected from the internet, I would DDU the installed driver & try it again. Or, if I suspected the new driver was bad, I would rollback to the last driver I knew worked. My last driver update (566.36) was before the 5000 series was released so I can't offer any advice.

I performed the DDU, as per your suggestion, and chose drivers that worked back in August (I can always roll back even further).

I gave the streaming another shot only to experience a similar crash. My stream did last a little longer than before so I suppose that's progress.

Here's the associated log file:

I've never experienced an encoder overload in the past months I've streamed with these settings, so naturally this is bizarre to me. Any further help is always appreciated. Thanks!

Rendering lag is almost gone but the driver is still crashing. Somebody else will need to chime in with a driver recommendation. All I can tell you is 566.36 has been installed on my system since it was released & it has never crashed.

I would recommend the latest driver always, but we don't have any way to help with your GPU driver crashing past recommending to run DDU and reinstall the latest driver. You probably want to reach out to a more generalized tech support as that is a bit outside the scope of OBS support and not something that is caused by OBS, just something that is preventing it from working properly.

I'll test all the suggestions out and then reach out to generalized tech support if things do not improve. Thanks so much for your help!

Just an update, the issue seems to be hardware related and as such I've filed a warranty claim.

Thanks to all of you for your assistance.
