Still image with sound, choppy video

I'm having issues with recording a source port of a game that OBS Studio doesn't recognize as a game, so I use Window Capture instead. After installing the latest version of OBS, I was unable to record a video of said game; it showed a still image with all the sound from the recording present. I searched and tried a number of fixes for this issue but none of them worked.

Oddly, I was able to record this same game smoothly back in January, so I figured it may have something to do with the version of OBS I had at the time. I remember I had this same issue at that time but I was somehow able to resolve it. I re-installed OBS Studio Version 30.0.0 (the first version I installed, dated last November) and tried recording it again, but the video turned out choppy each time. And I'm sure I didn't change any settings that would have caused this, as I almost never mess with them.

I don't understand what's wrong here. How can I get OBS Studio to record this game smoothly the way it did before?

Here is my log file:

Never mind, I think I fixed it by choosing Game Capture 2 and then setting the Graphics Settings for OBS Studio to "high performance." Forgive me for this pointless thread.

Unfortunately, I have to take back my last post after trying again. For whatever reason, OBS gave me the same old problems the day after I got it to work successfully once. I tried different settings and sources but nothing worked. Uninstalling and reinstalling OBS didn't help, either. I'm beyond frustrated and don't know how to fix this. Can someone please help me with this?

There is automated solution (https://obsproject.com/tools/analyzer) that helps to resolve the issues, it highlights major problems with the setup, example:
Next time try to record something, then click "Stop Recording", and then upload your current log without closing OBS (thus, log will include short statistics of the recording process, otherwise you need to find right log-file of OBS manually, by time and date).

And please remove that malware called mcafee
Years of people complaining about performance problems and other issues and all got resolved by simple removing this malware. Disabling it don't do the trick.

Display capture has to be set on it's own separated scene because it conflicts with game and window capture.
Recommended to read the guides on how to use OBS in this site https://obsproject.com/kb/quick-start-guide

I reinstalled and updated OBS to the latest version, uninstalled McAfee, and read the Analyzer after test-recording two more of the same unsuccessful videos. My videos either show a frozen copyright screen (which is odd, as I start recording well after that screen) or the main menu animating as I'm on OBS Studio, but when I click on the game, it freezes the picture for the rest of the video while I'm going through the options. All of the videos have the sound intact.

Here's one of my logs:

My log analysis cites the following issues.

Critical:
* MP4/MOV Recording
* 60.2% CPU Encoder Overload

I don't understand either of these two issues because I was able to able to record good-quality MP4s of the game early this year, and I don't get how the CPU encoder could be overloaded at 60.2% when this game and OBS are the only two things open on my laptop.

Warning:
* Integrated GPU
* Not Admin
* 9.5% Rendering Lag

Running as admin didn't make a difference, and again, I don't understand the other two because I was able to record this game before.

If it helps, the game in question is Mighty Mike 3.0.2, a source port of a Mac game from 1995. What's a mystery to me is why this source port is now impossible for me to record off of. I've been able to use OBS Studio to record a number of other programs (Yamagi Quake II, NES and PS1 emulators, YouTube, and PowerDVD) successfully, and this game is the only one giving me such a struggle.

...I was able to record this game before
The best option here is to back in time to previous build of the OS, drivers, game and OBS. If something updated (or installed) since your last successful attempt then result is unpredictable (oh, you already know this).

Unfortunately, I can't risk doing that. I tried backing in time before when I had another game that was messing up, and it caused a fatal error that locked up my computer on startup and made me find the 48-digit code to unlock it, then in order to save whatever data was on it, I had to sacrifice any programs that weren't pre-installed and reinstall them. I do not want to go through that again.

You should be able to change your encoder from x264 to Quicksync / QSV. As hardware encoder, this will put much less load on your CPU.

Thanks, I'll try that.

I emailed a friend of mine who happens to use OBS Studio and he showed me a video of how he recorded the game successfully. From what he showed me, it was a matter of choosing the right settings. Game Capture, capture specific window, Studio Mode off. I tried what he showed me and it seemed to work. I'll keep trying and see if that works consistently.
