Question / Help Static when using mic in live stream

Hi, my names Aaron, and when I do live stream there's always static when I turn on the mic. I did find that turning on the noise suppression in the mice setting stops the static, but I can't have that setting turned on because one of my addons in FSX, a voice control addon won't work with noise suppression on. I was wondering if there was another way to stop the static noise. Also I have noise gate enabled in OBS, but I don't know if the setting are correct, I just followed the instruction on the Twitch website.

What mic do you have? Headset, standalone, condenser mic (USB or XLR with phantom power)?
The best way to remove all kinds of noise is to get a better mic and remove anything that can produce noise, this is how we deal with it in a studio.
And any mic has noise, usually its the signal to noise ratio that will help you to find the right mic for you.
The best way is to avoid ANY software with noise cancelling functions until you get some professional solutions for this (and only if you need to change your voice, not for removing noise - when streaming/capturing there should be 0 noise).

I use a jack type headphone and mic. So getting a new mic would be the first step? Also this part of what you said didn't make since to me,

Yeah each mic has his own noise level. But usually its really low, so you have to turn gain all the way up to actually hear it - and you dont need that much gain for recording/broadcasting.
Here you can see it:

All details + "Self Noise" - thats what is interesting. Lower ist better, but dont expect a mic produce no noise at all, its not possible, even with the 5000€ Neumann microphones :-)

And try to avoid the software for removing noise, it will change your voice too. The best what you can get is a clean recording or a pure audio signal with low noise while broadcasting so you can use software to change the sound how you like it, not because you have to remove like noise or background sounds.

Thats the wrong option. Try to get a condenser USB mic.
Something like the Samson Meteor. They are way better - nice studio-grade quality, metal body, easy to use and they are pretty popular.

Audio can be pretty expensive, but today its easy to get some cheap and nice audio gear if you know what you need.

But i would try to solve the problem without throwing your money at it. Check all your settings and everything else. Your mic should work without any noise. It may sound "meh" and break after 2-3 years, but it should work.

So what are the best setting in OBS, also, I don't need a big mic, I'm using PDX for my flight simulator, and I want something small and easy to access and move around.

Best settings in OBS? That depends on your hardware, your software (other than OBS) and your voice too. Its different for everyone.

How is your mic connected to your PC? You might be getting static due to EM interference, which can be solved with an EM shielded cable and/moving the headphones to the front port(or back port).

You should test your mic with other software and check how it sounds. But i hate 90% of all headsets and consumer microphones - they are just bad, i mean really bad, specially if i think about the price.
