Question / Help Split Desktop Audio (So Audience Doesn't Hear)

OBS lists my desktop audio as one of the tracks in my setup, which goes out over my stream so my audience can hear the in-game audio. But I also want to have other things open as well in the background as a play (other Twitch streams, YouTube videos, my personal music, etc). I DON'T want my audience to hear any of that. Just the in-game audio.

Is there a way to segment out the in-game audio from all the other stuff, instead of it coming out as one mix via the desktop source? Could I somehow use a program like Voicemeter to accomplish this? This is all PC gaming by the way, no Elgato is involved.

Yes, you will need to use Voicemeeter or VBAudio to do this. We cannot provide support for their software here though.

I would comment though... if your attention is not entirely on your stream, do you really think that you are being entertaining enough to watch, if your gameplay and commentary isn't enough to even hold your own undivided attention? Why would anyone else be interested in watching a half-there streamer?

To extract the desired sources from the mix of general desktop audio is a common task. You need to "split" audio - that's the term used in the linked guides.

In general, it works like this: you install a virtual audio device and configure the app you want to record to output its sound not to the default device but to that virtual audio device. In OBS, you record that virtual audio device. These guides all deal with separating audio with different focus:
