@frodef is it a very large source you are trying to record? If that is the case you might try recording a scene with that source on it or use a scale filter on the source to get the resolution down.
Otherwise please provide an OBS log of a session in which the source recording is used.

The source(s) is a camera stream 4mpbs RTSP 1080p30fps. I'll have to get the logs later when I'm at that computer. Without Source Record configured these streams/sources seem to have near zero performance impact on my system (though obviously encoding is more demanding than decoding).

Does it make sense at all that there is this processing overhead even while not actually recording, just having the filters configured?

(It's also unclear to me if e.g. the NVENC AV1 encoder should work or not - the warning that NVENC should not be used seems to me a bit vague?)
