My computer and stream has had some sound crackling, one of my viewers suggested I download LatencyMon to see if a DPC issue is causing the popping, and sure enough, it is. The culprit is USBPORT.SYS. I searched for solutions to this problem, none of them matched my situation, so I started in on some trial and error.
Trial and error results are as such:
Game alone: No popping, USBPORT.SYS behaves itself.
Webcam on in its own software: No popping, USBPORT.SYS peaks around 0.5ms.
OBS open, webcam unchecked first, then preview enabled: No popping, USBPORT.SYS behaves itself.
Turn webcam on in OBS: Popping commences, USBPORT.SYS spikes to around 15ms.
Turn webcam off in OBS: Popping continues. USBPORT.SYS still spikes in the 15ms range.
Turn OBS preview off: Popping stops. USBPORT.SYS drops off the radar.
I assume I can fix this by getting an (expensive!) HDMI camera and running it through my capture card rather than USB, but if there's a free fix, I'd rather use that.
Log file from this test run attached.
