Question / Help Sony vegas movie studio platinum 6.0 won't use OBS .mp4 files

Hey there. So I recently heard about OBS and already love the software, although after some test recordings of minecraft. I went to go see if I could edit them in my copy of Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 6.0, but got an error message saying it couldn't initialize it or something similar to that. I don't have access to my computer right now so I can get the full error message. Could vegas be too old? Do I have the wrong settings in obs? Thanks for the help!

Sony Vegas is pretty notorious for being ridiculously picky about which video files/formats it will accept. You probably will need to turn on the 'Use CFR' option to make them natively readable, or transcode them to one of the formats it will permit using ffmpeg or similar.

I can say that Vegas 9, 12 and 13 normally take OBS recorded mp4 files just fine. But depending on the version you use, sometimes AAC or MP3 audio is not supported and thus vegas fails to open the video at all.
CFR definitely needs to be active though, so you can test that and try mp3 or aac audio. If nothing helps you might want to upgrade your vegas ;(

I'm pretty sure my CFR is active but I will check again. And my audio is currently on AAC. Switching it to mp3 might work?

And ferretbomb, how could I transcode the files?

I tried with both AAC and mp3 while CFR is on. The error message is "an error occurred while opening one or more files. the file format plugin for the specified format was not properly initialized"

Sorry I'm new to the forums so I'm confused on what to do

Oh, sorry, I guess if upgrading vegas is no option, then as ferret suggested convert the video format by transcoding.
For simple task I use freemake Video Converter for example, more advanced would be something like Handbrake. A bit of googling will give you plenty of tools.
