Question / Help Sometimes produces MP4s with no video?

Okay, this is weird...when I record (not stream) with OBS, sometimes the video comes out fine, and sometimes it's just a black screen. I play it in a media player, and the sound all comes through okay, but there is no video. And it seems to happen randomly to boot; it's basically a crapshoot whether I'll be able to use the footage or have to re-record it. I've checked my video settings and they look fine, and besides, if they were improperly set, I'd think it would fail to work all of the time, not just some of the time. I am using the latest update as well. Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this and how to fix it? My log is here: http://pastebin.com/uTZM9cXb

This isn't the source of your problem, just something I noticed. For capturing to disk (not streaming), use this guide to set it up: viewtopic.php?f=18&t=2972 .

It sounds like it could be a laptop problem, as I recall there was a sticky post for laptop users, you might check that out. I don't use OBS with a laptop so I'm not really sure though.

I tried playing them back in Windows Media Player and Media Player Classic.

And yes, I am using a laptop. As far as that guide goes...I got through the first step, but the second seems to involve options that aren't in my version of OBS. I found one post that mentioned laptops, but just "Radeon laptops with switchable graphics", apparently. I have no idea what kind of graphics card or driver(s) my laptop has.

According to the log your Laptop only has one graphics chip, so that shouldnt be a problem. I would do for example 5 tests, record 5 x 1minute and always check the preview in obs that it shows footage and is not black.
Afterwards check the videos, and see if we got good and bad examples, then please just zip them and upload them for example to megacache or something so we can take a look. Maybe also attach the new log of this session :)
