Question / Help SOLVED: Capturing Component and Svideo on Empia 28285?

I got a generic Component capture device which uses Empia 28285 drivers (the same as some Roxio cards apparently use) and in the device options Svideo and Component can't be selected, only the bundled Honestech software (different than the one Roxio comes with) has those options (on the main screen, not in device settings) I tried a window capture on the Honestech screen but even though the preview showed it the actual stream on twitch was a black screen.

I wonder if it would be possible for a OBS plugin to enable the S-video and Component options on Empia 28285 devices such as my generic one and Roxio. Or perhaps an alternate driver?

That's device-specific, and OBS isn't going to be able to correct that. You'll have to see if anyone makes an alternate driver for the device, which provides those options.

Weird though. If it shows up in the Preview, that's what's going out to Twitch. It's literally the video which is being encoded and sent out. Might try checking your Twitch VOD to make sure a viewer wasn't just messing with you.

If you're looking for a different capture device, I can recommend the SC-512N1-L/DVI wholeheartedly. It's an awesome card. Micomsoft sells one version for about $350 through Solaris Japan, but you can also get one without the passthrough daughtercard for $200 over at SabrePC. Worth every penny.

I would've thought a plugin might be possible since 2 different recording softwares have those options for 28285 devices.
I guess I'll have to keep looking for a driver, or see if anyone could code a modified one. I really can't afford a $350 capture card, the $25 one I've got displays Svideo and Component really well (in the bundled software that is).

And I checked my Twitch stream myself

In my search for a driver I found another video recording software (again, doesn;t stream to twitch) and like the Honestech software it too had the option to select composite, svideo and component outside of the device settings window. It would appear that the problem lies with OBS not supporting this feature which is present in other capture software so I'm going to try and find one that does support both this feature and twitch streaming.

Solved! FFSplit lets me select which input to use. It's not as good as OBS but until OBS lets me choose AV inputs for my device I'll have to settle for FFSplit.

Interesting, as OBS just calls the driver's configuration crossbar.

Possible that the resolution, framerate, or output format chosen may be disabling the option/limiting the driver. Know that if I pick a specific output format (before I turned on an auto-res option in my card's driver), it wouldn't allow me to use certain settings. Might try swapping to different ones and see if it re-enables use of the other input formats (eg: your capture device may only support 240i@20fps output when using SVideo for example, and SVideo as an input it if it's set to output something else).
