Question / Help Smooth streaming

Hello,

Ok I've been trying to figure out a good way to stream, but literally in the smoothest way possible.

Below are two different video's I've recorded - one is at 60fps and one is at 120fps.

Now for me, the 120fps VOD looks sooo much smoother than the 60fps VOD, or at least it does on my PC.

Could you please also confirm the same?

The only downside I've seen so far from streaming at 120fps is that my PC takes a bit of a hit on the FPS side of things, but if it's as smooth as that video is, then I'm happy.

I'm slightly confused how people with a i7 2600k have a smoother stream than I do. The 60fps stream for me doesn't look that smooth at all, in comparision to the 120fps stream.

The 60fps stream was also made with quicksync, which does work really well. My FPS are almost identical to not streaming in that case.

But anyway, if you can let me know your thoughts, I'd really appreciate it.

Someone may be able to tell you this. But most of us don't have 120Hz monitors, so we can't really see the difference. The 60 fps stream looks smooth btw, if that makes you happy.

120fps looks smoother, kind of, when the frame timing isn't being blown to hell by flash player (and probably your CPU crying). But more importantly it looks way more pixelated, because of the much higher bitrate requirements for 720p120fps.

In short, don't stream at 120fps. For one, only a small percentage of people even have 120hz monitors. Second, as you noticed, it impacts your in game performance significantly more. Third, flash player has enough issues just trying to do 720p60fps clean/smooth let alone at 120fps. Finally, you need way more bitrate for 120fps to look even remotely as good.

yes 120fps looks a bit smoother ... but if i watch those vods i would prefer 60fps over 120 by far... cause just the picture quality with 60 fps compared to 120 is so much better

Most people don't have 120hz monitors so although 120fps is available to use, the point is somewhat moot. You also need to use a lower resolution to account for encode/decode lag as well, as flash certainly can't handle decoding that fast at HD resolutions, and most computers can't handle encoding at that rate. You'd have to use more bitrate as well to compensate for the increased framerate most likely.
