Question / Help .sfk files instead of mp4 files - Streaming / Recording Bugs

Hello all,

I have been streaming recently, when I stream I always have my OBS record the stream so I can edit it for 1080P and upload it to YouTube at my convenience. Lately, I've started editing with Sony Vegas Pro 11, and now my recent OBS recordings have been changed from .mp4 files into two files: unopenable .sfk files with the audio split in a .mp4 file. What happened here, what changed?! I've lost hours and precious highlight moments here... I don't know what happened. I tried a to do a short local recording, (in my provided image its 2014-11-14-0514-40) and it loads properly as .mp4 with the audio and video synced in one file, ready for editing. Whats the issue here?! Thanks.

SFK files are not made by OBS, they are made by Sony Vegas. And this is the OBS Support forum.

Xphome, thank you for your fast reply. I understand sfk files are made by SONY Vegas Pro. The issues I'm having is somehow Sony Vegas Pro is interfering with my OBS recording feature, because my OBS is inconsistently making MP4 files, and then being ruined by Sony Vegas Pro- causing it to automatically split into .sfk files and an audio MP4- by unknown means to me. This happens as soon as I finish recording, so an actual MP4 file isn't actually made, but seems to be converted by Sony and messed up, in that case. Sometimes the MP4 recording feature works perfect on OBS... I'm not really sure what's going on, but I need to try my best to figure it out because I am losing loads of video content here...

SFK files are nothing more than visual waveform data that Sony Vegas creates so it doesn't have to do that every time you open up the project files. This does not affect the MP4 files in any way, nor does it interfere with OBS' recording function. There is no "splitting up" happening, since Vegas doesn't actually do this. It doesn't change the source material.

So, whatever's happening on your computer has nothing to do with Vegas.

Do your MP4s open up properly in your prefered media player?

Hi there DryRoastedLemon,

Also, thank you for the fast reply. I appreciate it. I understand that a .sfk is created annoyingly by Sony Vegas, the problem is OBS hasn't even created an MP4 file from my recent recordings. After I finish streaming/recording, the only thing that is evident is the .mp4 AUDIO only file, with the same date .sfk file to match. No video, just audio. That's why I believe there is interference happening somewhere, but I have no idea what else could cause it. Your advice is appreciated!
