Question / Help Setting up a stream

Hey guys!

Not really new to using OBS but I'm gonna create a new channel where I want to produce quality streaming. I really have no idea what settings to use, this is what I've been running so far:

Video Encoding:
x264
Use CBR - Enable CBR padding
Max Bitrate (kb/s): 4000

Audio Encoding:
Codec: MP3
Format: 44.1kHz
Bitrate 128
Channel: Stereo

Video:
1920x1080, downscaled to 1280x720 (1.5)
Bicubic sharper (good detail, 16 samples) (Whatever that means, have no clue. Left it as standard)
24FPS

Advanced:

However, some people have had issues watching it. So I was wondering what settings I should be using. Current hardware:

CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @2.40GHz
Memory: 8192MB running at 667MHz (surprised, lol)
Graphic Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 470
Running dual monitors, one at 1920x1080 (main) and one at 1680x1050.
OS: Windows 8.1

The games I will probably stream are Minecraft (both vanilla and modded), Binding of Isaac and Super Meat Boy.

Are you streaming to Twitch? If so, try lowering your bitrate. Twitch doesn't work well with anything above 3500. I personally stream at 2500kbps at 720p. Also, try setting the Keyframe Interval to 2. By the way, what's your upload speed?

That said, your CPU isn't great, and livestreaming is pretty CPU heavy. Are you getting any notifications such as "Taking too long to encode"? Try changing these settings first, though, and see if it works better.

I'm streaming to Twitch yes. And I get "Taking too long to encode" sometimes, but not that often. I'm aware that my CPU isn't great, but any idea on what settings to use would be helpful. Will try what you said :)

Edit: I tried with the new settings, I still get "Taking too long to encode" but not as near as much as before

0 issues found (0 major, 0 minor). (With analyzer, it was with "Preview Stream" though)

Gonna test using the settings suggested by estimator, thanks guys :)


Tried the new settings, getting even less dropped frames. If anyone got any more ideas, feel free to let me know :) Else, I'm quite satisfied with these results. Thanks for all the help guys! :)
