Question / Help Setting AverTV HD DVR as Video Capture Device?

I've been streaming with the AverTV HD DVR (C027) for a little while and I have to use either monitor capture or window capture (which ends up capturing the whole monitor anyway) to stream my console.

I see I can add "AverMedia BDA Analog Capture" and "AverMedia BDA Analog Capture Secondary" as devices under video capture, but using the analog capture only pops up a "No Signal" image while nothing at all shows up for secondary. I'm using HDMI to connect my console to the capture card.

Is there a way I can set up this capture card as a video capture device? Using window/monitor capture does work fine, but it also captures the various email/notification popups on my desktop that I'd rather not show off.

Secondary is the one you want (as that's the one used for component and HDMI), but you most likely need to select the correct resolution by ticking the "Custom Resolution" checkbox and selecting it from the dropdown list.

Hi, thanks for the response.

I tried it again using the secondary, but it still doesn't display anything regardless of which custom resolution I set it to. I tried "Open Crossbar" but I have no real idea what any of those options mean. I do see that under the Input dropdown there are two options: "Video Composite In" and "Video SVideo In"... is there nothing showing up because there's no "Video HDMI In" or something?

The crossbar dialog is using standard template names, Composite is component and SVideo is HDMI. You have to select SVideo for the card to take input from the HDMI port. You unfortunately haven't mentioned what console you're capturing, but be aware that PS3 can only be captured over HDMI in Aver Media Center because the PS3 has HDCP encryption enabled over HDMI regardless of if you're playing a game or watching a movie.

I am capturing from a PS3 using Aver MediaCenter. I'm using older drivers with it that remove the HDCP encryption, so capturing/recording content over HDMI isn't a problem. I might not fully understand the situation, though.

I'm including a screenshot of my settings so you can get a better idea of what I'm doing. Is there any additional information I can provide?

It does not remove the HDCP protection, like I told you, it only works in Aver Media Center. You would have to get a physical HDCP stripper device of some sort for HDCP protection to be removed.

The simplified reason it does not work is because you are capturing your PS3 over HDMI. That is all.

Yep. I personally regularly use a device with identical hardware as a video capture source in OBS.

I have the exact same issues, except I'm using an xbox 360. I don't have an issue using the software to capture the video, but it would be nice to be able to use game capture instead of window capture.

Got the same problem and apparently my HDMI splitter doesn't strip HDCP even though it's supports HDCP 1.2 (is there a difference?). OBS tuned as guided earlier: I can see the streamed picture from my PS3 in Avermedia Center and with OBS stream the sound but not the video (black screen). Fiddling with resolutions doesn't help.

The peculiar thing is that if I try to stream just PS3 'desktop' but not the game OBS indicates HDCP protection. But when I'm in the game: there is an audio with black screen.

Ok, now Im pretty certain that the problem is not entirely on my end:

I've connected PS3 with component RGB cable to my AverHD H272 capture card directly (can see audio and video with Aver Media center perfectly) thus eleminating any DHCP nonsense. However no mater what setting Im using in OBS the black screen + audio still persists when Im trying to capture Aver HD H272 as device. Tried all combinations of crossbar settings, in capture card settings tried PAL, Secam, NTSC to no avail: black screen + audio.

Considering similar game capture problems OBS has Im assuming described issue can be related. Any help on the matter? Guide me if I need to post certain logs to clarify.

You have to keep in mind that Aver Media Center has always been able to display HDCP-protected content, just not record it. Since OBS does not have a license to display HDCP-protected content (nor will it ever have one), it won't be able to capture that content.

Edit: Sorry, I missed the fact that you had switched to component. You will however need to match the resolution and the refresh rate the console uses in OBS' settings for the capture device, since the card in question does not scale the output for you automatically. If you are using 720p, set it to 1280x720 59.94 fps, if you are using 1080i, set it to 1920x1080 29.97 fps.

Thank you for quick reply: manually adjusting resolutions and FPS was the solution as you've said.
