Question / Help Separate Stream PC, With Capture Card, Adding a Dedicated G-Card

Hi,

I have a GTX780 kicking about and have popped it into my stream rig which uses the AverMedia Live Gamer HD.

Please note I do not use the capture cards internal encoding - I use the PC's CPU.

Now, is there any way to get a benefit from the graphic card in terms of encoding etc.?

As a quick test I changed OBS's Video Adapter setting from Intel HD graphics to the graphics card, I saw a drop in frames in the preview window from 60 down to 34-40,

Normal, or am I just not 'getting it',

Cheers,

The GPU is used by OBS for scaling and compositing, which is relatively lightweight. You definitely shouldn't see a drop like that going from the built-in to a discrete GPU.

Thanks FerretBomb.

So, even though there is nothing connected to the g-card (it is simply in its PCI-E slot) if I change OBS's Video Adapter setting from Intel HD graphics to the graphics card I should not be saying any performance drop, but instead possibly an improvement in CPU usage?

Not really, unless your integrated GPU is being taxed for some reason. A discrete GPU isn't going to offload any CPU utilization unless you're using the NVENC encoder, which is strongly advised-against due to the extremely poor quality compression it uses.
