Question / Help Same video, different settings

Can someone actually take a look? Cuz i have the feeling something is broken at my end....

Quality 5 @2500bitare 30 fps looks as good as quality 10 @3500 60 fps .... this can't be correct.....why is it pixelating? No matter what quality option i chose, whether 5 or 10...it is pixelating. Pls help me....

btw: those videos arent even real streams, they were directly recorded.

I really wanna know how to fight this pixelation ...also if i take a look at other streamers that stream with like 2300 bitrate 720p, the fonts look crisp....mine are pixelated as fuck.

Im going crazy soon.....

So i checked all the videos out that you put in the dropbox link, the ones with quality on 5 looked a lot better than the ones with 10 because of the fps motion. Also i saw hardly any difference's from 3500 to 2500, i think this "pixelating" thing that you speak of is not in fact pixelation's its the just way the image is encoded, mine just looks the same when i livestream shootmani.

Overall the Quality 5 ones look a lot better in my opinion because of the fast motion that the game has.

I've checked it like 1000 times....5 def. doesn't look better. They only thing that actually helped reducing some of the pixelation, esp. in dark areas was actually setting the preset to faster instead of veryfast. But other than that...5...10...2500..3500.... doesn't make that much of a difference. But 5 def. doesn't make it better ..... even if you compare them side-by-side ...nope....

The differences are subtle, to be sure. Higher bit rate will result in a high quality video, and more FPSes (games with lots of movement) it's generally better to set the quality at 7 or so, not 10.

I'm curious though...what resolution is the game itself running at? 1920x1080?

And to be honest, I don't think the videos looked that bad.

Yes, according to several guides its better to set quality to something lower than 10, but as you clearly can see in the videos it doesn't make any difference ....

Yet the question is: WHY is there pixelation? HOW can i get rid of it? Normally i shouldn't have any pixelation .....its not a 500 bitrate .... 2500 should be enough for 720p ...and 3500 should be way more than enough to get rid of pixelation and yet: pixelation.

What is wrong? Anything i can do?

Yeah ..... higher bitrate = higher quality video .... but the difference between 2500 and 3500 is clearly neglectable.

You can get rid of it by streaming at insanely high bit rate, or a really slow x264 preset. But both of those are bad ideas.

Honestly, pixellation is just a fact of life in streaming. It's compressed, lossy video that you're streaming out over the internet, and it's never going to look like it does when you're in game, especially for fast-motion games like FPSes.

What other streams are you looking at that have really crisp video? It's a lot easier to get crisp video with games like LoL and SC2 since there's not as much movement.

me and subme are already included in the preset, there is no reason to change them.

General advice is not to mess with any individual settings that are included in the presets unless you know what you're doing. Since you're "experimenting" you almost certainly don't know what you're doing, and the preset is best left alone. I didn't comment on your tip about aq-mode since aq-mode=2 is an experimental setting that has not yet been included in the presets, so there is possible gain to be had from it (and once it's considered stable/useful it will be put into the presets and you won't have to specify it manually anymore).

Let's not turn this into who knows what. Even I don't fully understand all the parameters for x264. Don't give coopmine too hard a time, everybody likes to experiment.

However, that being said, you should try to avoid recommending people try custom x264 parameters, because x264 parameters like that tend to be very hardware-specific things. especially subme and me.

Thx for your input guys, guess the quality isnt that bad anyway and its just normal. Lets see how it will look with HEVC in the future.
